I can't see how you can say my Broadband for £9.99/£8.99 is not good value do you Know of any better, I'd love to know? Given the saving by not having a landline.

Broadband is fine from cable suppliers, it's the call packages on their phone service that isn't value for money.

I use Telewest for broadband, have it £5 off the usual price for another 12 months and starter TV thrown in too.

I dumped my BT landline over a year ago and now use VoIP over the cable broadband service, we dumped TW for phone line over 5 years ago when they became dearer than even BT.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

It'll cost me more than that £1 saving to call them....lol!

Yeah I'll give 'em a call but that isn't a priority money save at the moment, but I'll get round to it don't worry!

Perhaps I'm reading their T&Cs incorrectly, but I thought the £8.99 was only if you took their telco services as well? From their site:

*Offer is available for new customers and to existing customers who have TV and Telco services and are new to ntl broadband only. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. After 3 months price reverts to £17.99 per month for 2Mb, £24.99 per month for 4Mb and £34.99 per month for 10Mb. Offer is only available when you take a phone line.

As I have Sky, I think their "free" offering is more competitive (cost of the TV package is "sunk", so incremental cost is zero). As continuity of supply is extremely important for me - my wife & I both work from home - and I have a 2nd line for business purposes, I'm definitely considering getting the Sky broadband package in addition to my existing ISP...
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

I recently got rid of my bt landline, however I still get a dial tone on the line but if i try and call any numbers it wont let me. I'm assuming this is for emergency calls only, but can't really test it, does anyone know if this is true? I'm hoping I wont have to test it either. I've left an old wired phone plugged in it for this reason.

These may be the T&C's to NEW NTL customers but any existing customer of longer than the 12 month min can downgrade to internet service only. Last year you could take out internet only as a new customer as I did, now maybe not.

I hope you don't need to test it either, but I think this phone thing has become an uneccessary crutch of modern society, you have a mobile but still worry too much that it might not be enough when in reality it'll probably be first method of calling emergency services in most peoples lives.

You can still get BB without a phone line but its only 512kb.

"512K Broadband is only £14.99*** per month, and there is no need to take a phone line. Offer only available online until 31st October 2006."

There is no need to take a phone line with any of ntl's broadband packages. You can probably get the 3 month half price offer if you call them after it's been installed.
