talktalk rubbish broadband

i left BT about a year ago to go to talktalk with whom i have my home phone line rental and calls. they promised me free broadband, but then reneged on it, saying i "wasnt in their area" !!!!!!? anyway, they said £10 a month for it, which was cheaper than BT so i agreed to an 18month contract (stupid, i know)
the contract ends in march or may 2011 and i really want to get out of it before then if poss. the reason is, the BB speed is worse than BT and the wireless hub makes my laptop no better than dial up speed! i have complained, run through all the things they tell you to do, but nothing makes it any better.
my line has been down for 4 days (just came back tonight) and i just want to get away from talktalk asap.
is there ANY legal (dont care if its sneaky) way to get out of this contract? can i tell them we're moving and dont want a phone where we're going?
any suggestions gratefully received. thank you

I believe they are planning on raising prices soon (forum murmurs and half confirmations by staff members) you should be able to get out at that point due to the change in price being detrimental to you.
As an aside you're experiencing exactly what TalkTalk is about, getting numbers through the door and then rapidly decreasing their service, you don't have to look far for scores of people who have went from 5, 8, 10Mb connections to lower than 1Mb... and it's always "a problem with your equipment or internal wiring."Bought, not Brought0 -
Yes we still have a year to run on our contract and it is rubbish. I cannot get onto my favourite gardening website and it is driving me potty.:A0

Sound like it is a BT line if your exchange hasn't been LLU. So talktalk might not be your problem.
Do you still pay line rental to BT?0 -
Totally agree. The OP would have got the free BB service had there been a TalkTalk unbundled service ate his exchange, as it is there isn;t so he's gone on the standard crappy shared BT service which is no longer fit for purpose. Nothing much TalkTalk can do about it I'm afraid, it's down to BT.Sound like it is a BT line if your exchange hasn't been LLU. So talktalk might not be your problem.

9 times out of ten it usually is.As an aside you're experiencing exactly what TalkTalk is about, getting numbers through the door and then rapidly decreasing their service, you don't have to look far for scores of people who have went from 5, 8, 10Mb connections to lower than 1Mb... and it's always "a problem with your equipment or internal wiring."0 -
my line is useless and many times bodged/mended copper wire, so even with BT i cannot get more than 1MB.
but talktalk are using the same wire, so why is the speed often half of that? why should it be less fast than BT, when they're using the same wire? and the wireless router is definitely substandard compared to BT.
so the only thing I can do is wait and see if they jack the price up, which is in violation of what i agreed? wouldnt the "i'm moving" trick work if i leave their BB and phone line/calls?If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all

Go to the exchange search facility here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search , enter you telephone details and this will give you details of your exchange and whether you have access to an unbundled provider. As said, at the moment you are on the rubbish BT wholesale service which is well over capacity and no longer fit for purpose. Also, look at getting your wiring sorted.0

Hello. I am having similar problems. I was with Plusnet and my laptop and connection was fine - and fast. Switched to TT in the summer and now I wait about 4 minutes just to get google to load. I would say Plusnet are no different to TT in that they are using the copper wires/BT's infrastructure. A soon as my time time with TT is up I will switch away. I am not going to waste my time calling technical support. I would not use TT again.0

i have heard plusnet is good, too. but i am loathe to sign up to anyone but BT because at least I KNOW the service i get with BT.
neil, how do you suggest i get my wiring sorted? it took BT YEARS to get BB up my road, even though we're only 1/3rd of a mile off a main A road. how can i get them to upgrade my wiring? thanks for the link, here's what it came up with; http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EARAVIf you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all

Plusnet are likely to be no better. Without an unbundled (LLU) provider you're stuffed I'm afraid, you may as well go back to BT, or move.0

I do intend to go back to BT. does no-one have any ideas as to how I can get out of my TT contract early, aside for waiting to see if they put their prices up?
