Tesco Mobile short ring times

I have Tesco PAYG Lite. I notice lately that my mobile only rings three times before going to voicemail. A lot of times I miss calls and have to phone my voicemail to pick up a message which is costing my 8p each time. Is this some scam by Tesco to get me to use up my credit?

Its not a scam, because you can easily change it to a maximum of 30seconds.

So it is a scam then.
If I want 60 seconds before kicking into voicemail, why shouldn't I be able to have it?

Alternatively, why not just phone customer services and have the answerphone disabled altogether. It's what I've always done on my PAYG and contract phones over the years. Most people won't talk to an answering machine and even more people that get charged for your answerphone will hate you for it. Just get it turned off, problem solved. :)

No need to call customer service. ;)

To turn off Tesco Voicemail, quick key 5# - or call 2915
  • I don't want to lose my voicemail option but I would like to increase the ring time before voicemail kicks in. How can I easily do this?

To set the ringing time, key in: **61*MailboxNumber**30# then press ok/send/call

Some phones will allow you to change it in the menu. I'm not sure what your mail box number is on Tesco.

Who is going to wait 60 seconds of ringing?
The reason they don't allow your phone to ring for 60 seconds is because it is using up signalling bandwidth (which is finite) on the network which they are not getting paid for.
Options are to either turn the voicemail off completely (your phone still will not ring for 60 seconds) or set the delay to the maximum permissible which is 30 seconds.

Actually, the reason you can't set it to 60 seconds is that 30 seconds is the maximum in the GSM specification.
Quite frankly, I think the thread is a load of fuss over a trivial matter.
