Having to cancel Virgin Media and join Sky - Help!

Hi all

I'm moving home in a few weeks and Virgin Media don't offer the package I am on currently (TV, broadband and phone) as they don't have coverage in that area to provide TV. I rang them up and they say I will need to pay £145 to cancel. I joined them in April so I am half-way through my 12 month contract. Has anyone had experience of this or found ways of reducing a similar charge - it's quite a lot of money when there's nothing I can do about it - I'd be more than happy to keep it if it was available.

Also, does anyone have any tips on getting a decent package from Sky (TV, broadband and phone)?

Cheers for any replies!

I have exactly the same issue!! Except I was aware that I was moving house and was unsure of the coverage where I was moving to, so I asked the technician (the only employee I spoke to, as I ordered online) and he informed me that they would cancel the account for free if I did not take up the offer of Regular ADSL.
I rang to cancel this morning and was informed no, I would owe £125, I then said I would like to complain as I was mis-sold, he said they cannot take complaints over the phone and that I would have to write in. I attempted to complain via the Web and the link is broken!! HELP?

Nothing you can do, VM do not cover all areas and the original contract you took out was based on your current address. This question is asked almost every week and the answer does not change.
If you migrate your phone and BB only (though this means you will be on the mediocre Virgin National service, which is just a resold BT Wholesale product) then you will only have to pay the ETC on the TV service. However be aware that this means that all your migrated services will start on new 12m contracts.
Why are so many people convinced that bundling TV with phone and broadband is a good idea?-it's rarely the cheapest option. Look for the LLU options on your new exchange:

Its not always about cheapest, its about quality too, virgin broadband is faster than ADSL, on par with sky for price for TV and they throw in a phone line for no extra cost but most folk have free minutes on their mobile

In my area Virgin media TV is a very poor quality picture but the BB speed (downloads anyway, upload is not so good) is excellent so I simply take what's best from each, not sure whether I would be the odd pound better off with a package or not, and don't care.

As above look at the quality of service provided.

Oh and if you signed a 12month contract then there is no chance of walking away that's the while point of the contract, only way of knowing whether they could reduce you package for the 6 months is by phoning them.
