i was thinking about getting a slow cooker,

daft question...do you have to half cook all the meat before hand, as i thought that i could just chuck everything in the pot like raw meat and veg etc the nite before and store pot in fridge overnite then let it cook slow all the next day i wouldnt have the time to faff about in the morning doing the veg etc..........btw i dont do much cooking ..can you tell lolol
  • dashy - I think they only say brown the meat to hold more moisture when in the slow cooker.

The next one I try will be a "chuck everything in & hope for the best" affair :)

I've had a slow cooker for donkeys years and dont bother browning the meat any more. However this does mean that the flavour is in the liquid more than the meat itself, which is OK if you eat the lot anyway.
My must do tip is to heat the liquid that you will cook it in to boiling point while the cooker is preheating (about 15 mins), so put this on while you get ready in the morning.

I just wondered if anyone uses the low setting on the tesco cooker as on the instruction booklet says that high is the normal setting for cooking and takes about 7 - 8 hrs

I used it on high the other day to cook chicken and it worked fine.....

I did buy this slow cooker, tried it out other day for a stew i chucked everything in didnt brown the meat first tho, i cooked it on high put it in about 11am and was ready by 4 pm it was yummy.
was thinking the next time i do one before work i will put it on warm as i thought if i cooked it on high all day there wouldnt be anything left of the stew at 6pm

I got the Tesco 1 for my sister. No complaints yet. Appearance is nice though & it fit in fab with ehr expensive stainless steel kitchen, I won't tell her i got it cheap lol. Plenty in stock at Hampton Peterborough.
