this happened last year but went of its own accord but is now back. When I flush either of the toilets about 2 minutes later there is an almighty gurgling in the pipes while the cistern fills back up. I thought it was some kind of airlock or low pressure or something but really havent a clue so am open to suggestions. its almost like a vibration noise.

Could be water hammer. If you can lift up the cistern lid, press down on the ball to increase the flow when it occurs and see if it disappears.0

Yes, when it happened this morning I pushed the ball down and it stopped. Any idea on a permanent cure please?0

Put 'cure water hammer' into UK Google and click on the first site. They give 3 possible options. It is likely to be the third as 2 toilets are affected.0

This happenend to us and the plumber put in a new ball !!!! (think thats what it's called!) There has been no problems since apart from the upstairs toilet but that's another story! You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -

ha ha I know exactly what you mean. I think words like those are 'rude' therefor censored!Someone at work suggested it may be the ball thingy in the loft. Hopefully wednesday I can get up there and have a bit of a look0

I have just had the same problem and called a plumber(brother in law hence free) and he fitted a new "ball valve" it is now as silent as a very silent thing.

That doesn't help, I've tried looking for the site you recommend and can't find it.
I don't see what the ball kock in the roof is going to do with this, toilets are usually fed off the cold mains directly, totally bypassing the roof tank. You'll need to determine what feed the toilets are on, tank or mains.0 -

Not true - In the UK toilets are normally fed from the cold water tank in the loft, as is the hot water and cold water in the bathroom, etc. The only water fed directly from the mains is the cold water tap in the kitchen, plus the cold water to any kitchen appliances. I say this is normally the case, it would be different if a combi boiler were fitted. Also there are hot water tanks that can be fed directly from the mains as used on the continent.0 -
Well maybe, but then I must have lived in some odd houses.0
