Barclaycard refusing CBT

I had the same problem trying to do a balance transfer. I was told that no balance transfer offers were available and I told them this was wrong. They checked with their supervisor and told me there was a technical problem with this type of card and to try again on Tuesday afternoon (10th October) when they hoped to have it fixed.

Tuesday was the last possible day I could do the transfer without risking missing the deadline on the other card and I knew I would be busy at work so I tried again on Monday night and was again told point-blank that I could not do a balance transfer. I told them that I knew this was due to a technical problem and they argued a bit, obviously not having been told about this.

I had to pay the other card from my (fortunately cheap) overdraft facility to avoid the risk of losing the interest-free period on the other card.

Moral: Do not rely on Barclaycard to do transfers on demand. Attempt the transfer well in advance of the due date and/or have a backup plan. I always pay the minimum amount from my current account as I've had problems in the past with delays and non-execution.
