There will always be a weak point in something that large. Look at Gmail for example that doesnt need exact sync yet it still falls over.
Theres something to be said for the old iron from IBM etc it may be ancient but its rock solid.
your lack of understanding supercedes your mistaken assumptions.
Even if it were time-dependent (which it isn't in the slightest), it would not prevent you from having redundancy.0 -

I can't see an option to order a Card Reader
The option to order a Card Reader will only show on your internet banking page if you are ordering a Card Reader from a FlexAccount Visa debit card account. If you don't have a FlexAccount Visa debit card account, you do not need a Card Reader and the option to order a Card Reader will not be available.
The piece of information that Nationwide is not telling you is that they are currently replacing InvestDirect cards, which previously only had a mag stripe, with ones which have a chip which is card reader enabled. I received one last month when my last card expired.
Perhaps someone with a new CashBuilder card can confirm that it is also card reader enabled.
I expect that this is the reason why the memorable information login will continue for a while but only until all e-banking capable cards are card reader enabled.0 -
We have had the Barclays card reader since it was launched, when we first got it I telephoned Barclays to tell them I was not happy with it using my debit card and pin for authentication, they said no problem and sent us a seperate authentication card and pin purely for the card reader, this has always worked well for use never had an issue with it at all and always though it was quite a good idea.
I do understnad what you all mean about it recgnising the correct pin for your debit cards and even with the extra authentication card we got I could still use the debit card if I wanted to, maybe it would have been better if they sent everyone a seperate authentication card and the machine did not have the facility at all to use your debit card?
Either way it is extra security that is so needed in this day and age but as with everything else I am sure a fraudster could find a way around mosth thing the banks could introduce if they really wanted................................
I have just joined Nationwide so time will tell if I am to be a happy customer or not, I hate all banks full stop so it is going to be a challenge for them"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
I see no reason why this should drive customers away from Nationwide.
I have both Barclays and Nationwide and whilst I must admit that login to Nationwide, with the pull down menus for selected password characters, is easier than Barclays.
The only real problem will be to remember to take my card reader with me if I leave home and wish to access my bank. However, as i already have to take this if i want to do anything other than check my balance or make an internal transfer, I can't really see the problem.
For me the bottom line is:
Am I thinking of closing my Barclays account because I don't like the login procedure? NO
Would I prefer Nationwide to retain the existing procedure? YES
BUT
Am I going to close my Nationwide account when I am content to use the samre procedure with Barclays? DON'T BE DAFT

AGREE! i am an ex barclays employee and i now work for nationwide and i still bank and do online banking with both! i think if this is all you have to worry about in your lives, i envy you all. Why go through all the hassle of closing accounts...making complaints...returning card readers and asking for receipts etc?! do you think any of the people you do that too really 100% care? unfortunately that is just the way it is, the upper management/IT people make these decisions, the branch staff etc have to deal with the silly complaints that follow. For future reference if you feel the need to make a "storm in a tea cup" about it all please don't do it to the branch staffthanks!

Hi all
I opened my FlexAccount in March, and have never had a card reader, or had one mentioned to me. I cannot read the online message when I log in, as it disappears too quickly, but do see the picture of the card reader
Will I need a card reader in future? Do I need to ask for one? I did open it online though, does this make a difference?
To be fair, I only use the account as a 'shifting money around' account, and it's not my main current account. I'll keep some form of account with the Nationwide, seeing as I've been a customer of theirs since before they changed to the charity / turning into a bank thing :rotfl: (and because we're looking at a mortgage with them).0 -

If they don't send you one, then they don't want you to use it and you won't be asked to use one.0
