>>>>>>>>>>paypal close account and hold money for 180 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heveryone can anyone help me advice or anything i have had enuf of paypal how can they get away with robbing people..

i have had a paypal account since 2006 iv been buying selling on ebay everythings been fine up untill about 4 weeks ago when they limited my account then asked for ID stuff which i provided everything, even after that the emailed me stating my account is permenently closed due to high risk!!! they limited the account after i sent my brother some money from my paypal account to his £1700 as i owed him money and didnt have it in my bank account so sent it via paypal..

i emailed them back after they sent me the email stating they wont be reinstating account, i asked for a reason but all i got was 1st im high risk, then when i ring them they say i have other accounts (which i dont) then in the reply to my 2nd email its high security risk !! seems lik they cant make their mind up. i emailed again to all high people in paypal and got same responce back even thou i stating they are illegally holding my money and how they find my account high risk but all i got back was they have had another look at account and it wil remain limited they no longer want my custom.. so i rung them explained who i sent the money to and why but they didnt care less they didnt want to know.

paypal are holding almost £2400 of my monay and they will not release it for 180 days which is absolutly shocking.. they say its due to charge backs but iv argued with them that all feedback has been left for items i have sold also the charge back is 180 days for credit cards and 45 days for other payment methods.. so asked them to provide me with info on transactions which were paid via credit card and none credit card ones so i can determine how much they can realy hold.. but they ignored it once so i emailed again and its been 4 days and no responce from them!!

i am thinking of taking this further can anyone help me? also is their anyone else with this problem? if so we can all get together report them to WATCHDOG, FSA, FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN AND WHO EVER ELSE and take legal action.. by searching via google seems like they have done this to too many people with no valid reason and they may be profiting from our money gaining intrest on it we need to stop this stop paypal treating us like criminals.

any help will be appreciated.

I used to work for the FSA & we used to get this reported all the time, you need to complain to their head office (Luxemburg) and then if you don't get a response in 8 weeks (I think) you can go to the ombudsman - the problem with this is it is in the T&cs that they can do this - however they do seem very quick to do this

Looking at the history on your ebay account it's easy to see why you are deemed as high risk.

They are within rights to hold the money for 6 months as thats within the conditions you signed up to. Others have got it released if they put pressure on but I wouldn't bet on it.

Goodness I hadn't noticed that, It's been a long while since I've seen stars at 3.9 and the feedback is very poor as well.

OP, although feedback can be one sided it does seem that paypal may have had a point about holding your funds as you are high risk. You seemed to have quite an issue with lack of communication and if all thos epeople were contacting paypal you will have been flagged , I'm just surprised they allowed it to go on so long.

Yes you can fight this, it will cost you lots of money though and the way courts go you'll almost certainly be looking at waiting for longer than the 180 days anyway to get any sort of decision. As you would have to supply a reasonable defence, I fear you may struggle though .

Hmmm, I also see why they think you're high risk. You have very low star ratings, and the replies you've left to some of the feedback makes you look like a nutter! (capital letters, poor spelling, rude etc...).

Unfortunately the 180 day rule is written in the PP T&Cs that you sign up to, so other than putting pressure on them in writing (politely!), and re-sending all the information that they require, then not a lot you can do unfortunately.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    You are right.

I still remember that poor woman with mental problems who had funny pics on her listing. She got negged by fake bidders and also had to close her FB account. One of the worst ever threads I've seen on MSE, people can be really nasty. :(
