HTC Hero or San Francisco

I have been using a sim-free white HTC Hero for the past 12 months which has been fine and has recently been updated to Android 2.1 direct from the HTC website.

Now I am getting tempted by all the talk of the San Francisco even though I am yet to try one out but am thinking of getting one unlocked to use with the T-mobile £7.50 deal I have just taken.

Is the SF worth considering or am I best off settling with my Hero for a while longer?

Depends if it does what you want it to do?

The san fran is better in all departments except the camera and build quality.

It wont be much of an upgrade for you as it would if you were a new android user but still by all acounts the screen is the mega plus point.

Sell yours and you may have change after swop?
  • Hello,

I've just changed from a Vodafone Storm 9500 on the online 750 tarif (no longer exists) to the Orange San Francisco.

I wanted a good android phone with wifi, gps, 3g etc. The cheapest option I could find was the HTC Wildfire on a PAYG I liked but I found that tesco were doing an offer on their £15 per month (500 mins, unlimited texts and data) to get it for £10, I also liked the 1 month rolling contract. So I got the sim, bjut one of the guys at work got San Francisco as a wifi/mp3 player as its as good as most mp3 players. So I had a look at it and for £99 I thought its good but did not want Orange. Luckily my collegue had unlocked his, just for the sake of getting it done, 99p on eBay. So yesterday I bought one needed to buy £10 top up also but did not mind as I knew I was going to unlock it. 30 mins later and an eBay purchase, all is unlocked and tesco sim works fine. All good

My only gripe is the camera but for 3.2MP it takes a good picture, and even a pick taken of text from a book works well and so the Android Photo to PDF tool should work well.
My collegue at work has the HTC Hero and they are pretty similar, he's holding out for the HTC Desire HD.

    Hope this helps,
