Dress Cleaning on a budget

Hi Pickle but if something does go wrong then I am assuming they will want proof that its worth what I say its worth and in that case I can't...Married the love of my life on 28th April 2011 :T

What's the dress made of? If it isn't silk, I would seriously consider turning it inside-out or putting inside a duvet cover and washing on a gently cold wash with minimum spin, then hanging over your bath to drip-dry.0

My mum got my dress cleaned here after my wedding - I suspect it wasn't particularly cheap but there was alot of beading and detail on it so I guess the price varies from dress to dress - it was as good as new afterwards, which is impressive as it was BLACK by the end of the day! Plus they collect and deliver it too0

Hiya Floss it is satin I think... there is no label and I have no idea who made it. Do you really think I could do that to a beaded dress?
Nozzy thanks for that, it seems an interesting website closer to the time I think I will call them and see what they can do
Thanks Ladies

You're welcome
I meant to add, it came back beautifully boxed up and wrapped in tissue paper too, there were almost tears when I opened it and saw it again! 0 -

I washed mine in the washing machine 3 times but you have to have nerves of steel to do it - everyone thought I was completely mad but I decided to take the chance as the dress only cost me £45! It came up like new after the second wash and I've washed it again to sell it. It has beads and sequins on it and all were unharmed. Mine was a "satin" material but I don't think it was real satin (I actually have no idea if their is a difference..but I'm sure someone else would know).
The only draw back was that it took me nearly 2 hours to iron it but the results were fantastic. I would be very careful though as I'm positive that you could not do this with all dresses - I know silk dresses for example, would not survive a wash cycle and I don't think I'd risk it if there was a lot of intricate lace work either.0 -
Right ladies I am over the moon as I have offcially bought my wedding dress off the Bay of E, its arrived its beautiful and it fits! (although a few pounds to loose would mean I could actuallly eat a few mouthfuls of the wedding breakfast
)
The dress does need a clean (did say so in the ad) but I have no idea where the hell to send it. I know it can be really expensive but I am on a ridiculous budget (made redundant in September and no work to be found
) has anyone got any ideas who will do a decent job for not a lot of cash??
Am in the East Midlands if that helps :S
Many many thanks ladies

Does it actually 'need' a full dry clean? I mean is the dirt underneath because it will be filthy within 5 mins of putting it on! Or is there a noticeable marks on it?:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Maydot OMG you really must have nerves of steel! with all the beading I wouldn't dare it!
Frany - it has been tried on by people and smells like it... And the only actual dirt is on the satin bit of the train which is under the net and so is not visable so basically its just for freshening up
Had a call from Perry de mont somethingorother and he talked me through the process. Has anyone else used them?Married the love of my life on 28th April 2011 :T

can you use fabric freshener? is there a specificone for lacey material? thatd be worth a try first to see if you could get away without cleaning it properlyI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0

If you want to freshen it up I might try steaming it in the bathroom hanging it near a very very hot shower? If it smells perhaps you can set the iron to steam with a bit of fragrant ironing water over it?I love surprises!0
