Item Not Received

I won and paid for an item on ebay. However after two weeks I have not received the item. The item was sent second class standard and the seller says that he has proof of posting. Is there anything i can do to get my money back?

Did you pay by paypal? If so start a chargeback for item not receieved - unless the seller is able to prove delivery - standard second class cannot prove this - it would have to be recorded or a trackable method. Ideally he should refund you then claim off royal mail.

before you do charge backs and all taht - where was the item coming from? from abroad it can take weeks. email the seller again, and ask them to track it for you

  • It was sent from Stoke on 21/9

ok so it is from the UK - that case, the person should beable to track it to its location. It could be at your local sorting office if they had attempted to deliver it, and have not issued a card to you. If they say they can not track it, and they do not have a tracking number, then put in a claim to paypal but its always best to contact seller first :)

  • The seller said that it was sent in a jiffy bag and postage was less than a pound. I didn't know that you could still track these items.

if that was the case, he never sent it recorded delivery so you should do a chargeback as he can not prove postage. Sure, he might have receipt but that couldbe a receipt of a delivery to anywhere and for anything, not your item.

number 1 rule, when selling, post with recorded at minimum

  • It isn't possible to track post that was sent just 1st/2nd class. The seller should have asked for a COP when they posted the item which covers the seller for up to £32. Ideally the seller should refund you and then claim from the Royal Mail after 15 working days.

    Totally agree with you.

All of this about recorded and tracked is a red herring really, it is not worth paying an extra 68p to have a low cost item tracked, all I do is keep a COP for all my items under £32 and if one fails to arrive I just refund the buyer and claim back my losses at the right time from RM.

Sending 100 packages a month recorded would cost me £68 extra, Royal Mail would have to lose an awful lot of my packages to make it worth me shelling out that sort of money when I am already paying them to deliver it anyway.
