you will continue to get esa at assessment rate as its the same as jsa

    Hello,

I am also given to understand that something like 38% of all claimants will get onto ESA either after the medical or after the appeal.
The other 62% will be on JSA or will find work in the meantime.
I think I am right with that?

When you take all of the emotion out of it, that does seem a lot of people who are claiming IB but will not get ESA. Are there that many 'dodgy' claimants?
If there are, no wonder the government is doing what it is doing!

Just my opinion and I hope I don't upset anyone

    Thank you

  • the current figures are only for people who have claimed esa from october 2008 and have never claimed IB,however many only claim for the initial 13 weeks(or less)assume they get better and never have the medical
you have to assume that this will be the case when the transfers from ib to esa start,i.e. some will simply end their claim, others will pass the medical, others will fail and appeal either successfully ot not,so i wouldnt take too much notice of figures being thrown around atm

The criteria for IB & ESA are different. Plus, many people on IB who are currently exempt won't be under ESA rules. (those on HRC, registered blind, etc)

Its to be expected that many IB claimaints will fail ESA.

ESA was DESIGNED FROM THE OUTSET to FAIL 1 MILLION IB CLAIMAINTS.

    Hello

Could I also add that when you get your letter saying you have failed they say that you should claim JSA instead. It is not clear at all that that if you do appeal, you will continue to receive ESA at the assessment rate until the appeal is heard by the Tribunal Service.

From what I have heard only about 38% actually manage to get ESA, the rest either find work or claim JSA.
They also write to your GP saying that you have been found fit for work and instruct him/her not to issue any more 'sick notes' unless you are appealing.

    Thank you

You have to bear in mind many close their claim before assessment as they had a short term illness / injury that cleared up in the long wait for a medical assessment. Its something like 37 (roughly from memory) percent of people claiming that do that. So they 'did' get ESA during the assement phase, but do not count as stats for who actually gets passed at medical, as they heal before medical.

The pilots are a bit of a massive waste of time really, as they are not using the new proposed descriptors/software that is likely to be used ina national roll out.

So as a guide to how a national roll out goes, it is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
