iphone 4 on orange

Hi my friend got his Iphone 4 yesterday he got it from the carphone warehouse because the orange shop was shut yesterday for some reason.

But he is still waiting for them to activate the sim card, he done this on an upgrade so is keeping the same number as he had before just of course a new sim card for the iphone 4.
Does anyone know how long it takes to activate, he has phoned orange and at the moment they have nothing saying that he has upgraded the phone.

I added an Iphone 4 to my Orange account and it was activated immediately. It was an additional handset with a new number though added to my account and done in the Orange shop itself.
