PCW own brand (Advent) are rubbish, but the main issues are: overpriced goods, (especially peripherals), untrained and clueless staff, and complete technical incompetence should you be unfortunate to take a machine back for a warranty repair. And the only time they are creative is when they need to find an excuse not to honour a warranty.
But don't take my word for it. Just search for PCW on this board and you will find loads of disgruntled customers.
If you know exactly what you want, the price is right and you don't expect it to need a warranty repair then they're OK. Unfortunately most non-tecchy consumers don't fall into these categories, and they're the usual victims of PCW.
And don't forget the grossly overpriced extended warranties!

yeah I'll agree with that but you really could say that for most (if not all) high street shops, I only shop for good value items and I cirtainly wouldnt buy a USB cable from them. of which I think the laptop I suggested is a good deal at a good price and would be available to pick up right now, and I suspect that dealing with a warranty from an online retailer would be no easy task, having to sent it away, esp if it was ebay.

Don't go to PC World... about 4 years ago a younger, more ignorant Racheya, bought a £500 laptop from there. It had 512Mb RAM and 40Gb hard drive trying to run Vista... took me 2 years to get an upgrade to 2Gb. They also try to con you on help. When it broke, they tried to make us pay £30 for a system restore that anybody with half a brain can do.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Although, I have an re-conditioned Advent laptop and it is a lot better than my old HP, and I have had no probs with it at all (yet, touch wood!) then again I more likely to have a bit of a fiddle about with it rather than take it back. (I got caught on a Curry's extended warranty with my very 1st PC, never, ever, again!)

My sister on the other hand has been known to go without and wait 3 months for my next visit home rather than ring a helpline or faff around with it herself :rotfl:

I wish I would take my own advice!
