Royal Mail! - Envelope Cut

My sons baptism was at the weekend, his great grandparents couldn't be there so they sent the card by post fortunately with a cheque inside. They handed it in over the counter at the post office, it arrived to DS2 on Saturday having been cut at the fold! Royal mail knew it had been damaged and put it in a plastic bag! Im so !!!!ed off as it has been clearly damaged on purpose - somebody must have thought there was cash inside! So please people do not send anything of any value in the post!!

Calm down. Stop the cheque first, or get the person to.

Or if sending cards, disguise them inside other envelopes.
But basically don't ever send cash.0 -
did you get the cheque?
if you did could it be the card had got damaged in the sorting machine

Telling people not to send stuff is a bit silly. It was a cheque so you were able to cancel it. Anything of high value should be sent special delivery.0 -
How are people supposed to send valuble stuff then? Over priced courier.? Was the cheque stolen at all?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

You can send cash or valuables special delivery as cyberbob stated.
My gf grandparents very often send birthday cards and cheques in regular post.
But the cheques are sent in plain envelopes with a letter, the birthday cards inside a brown envelope.
Cheques are much safer to send than cash anyway, as the cheque can be cancelled.0 -
if the card had been damaged on purpose to get cash out of it then I would guess the "thief" would have destroyed all evidence of the card existing. They're not going to open the card with a knife take the money out and then put the card back into circulation. Therefore I think its far more likely that the sorting machine damaged the card. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Cheque remained inside sorry i should have said that! I was just having a bit of a rant!! I seriously doubt that it was done by a machine unless the machine has some sort of knife - it was so clean cut along the side fold of the envelope.DFW Nerd #awaiting number - Proud to be dealing with my debts!

That's exactly what some of the machines do. My brother works in the sorting office and they get a few that do that, especially with cards as they tend to be silly sizes (hence the splitting into large and small stamp categories a while ago).I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Could have been either.
Perhaps the postie opened it, saw it was a cheque, and posted it anyway. Blame the sorting machine if there is any comeback.0
