Currently, the assessments are done in the claimants home. (this helps the doctor see what equipment and adaptations they have) I have no idea if this will be the same after 2013.

Ihad to travel to Coventry (different county) and on the first floor. The medical was on the first floor. It lasted all of two minutes when the doctor saw my meds. I had asked a similar question in another thread, but the new stories suggest a real thoughening of the process. I am 100% genuine, but very worried in case I become a incentive or part of that days target.

Forgive my being thick, but what is all this court business with appeals?

I think that it's extraordinary that so many people have received DLA for so long without having a medical. It's hard to see why anyone should think it unreasonable for regular medicals to take place.

I agree. Every few years at least, but with one proviso. The person doing it should be knowledgeable about your disability

In an ideal world I would agree.

i can see your point however both my girls have received HRM and HRC since they were very young and have been given a life time award.
Their profound disabilties mean that they will never be free of their condition and I dont see why they should ever have to have a medical. What good would that do, other than waste money and be stressful to all concerned ( the girls would be completey oblivious to the assessment- but we the family and carers would be stressed at having to get them to an assessment). Why should we have to sit and listen time and time again to all the things that they cant do all the same questions from doctors....after a while it hurts like hell to relasie that your children are uanble to do so much....
SO i think its hard to generalise about medicals...some disabilites such as my two daughters are so severe they will never be able to care for themselves, or go out side un supported without at least three adults for the two of them.

    Agree, Older.

I think it is reasonable for medicals to take place. My DLA was recently renewed without having to go through a medical - they based the decision on my information, consultant's information and test results, which appears enough for them. However, I have not had a medical carried out by the benefits agency since claiming DLA.

I do think, at some point, everyone claiming DLA should go through a medical.

I think it's reasonable for medicals to be done. What I don't think is reasonable is for them to be done by people who are not sufficiently qualified to work out whether or not someone has a specific condition or not, and unfortunately that is frequently the case with ATOS employees. That's the part I kick up at.
