Tiscali are offering 1Mb broadband with a 2GB cap with free modem for the cheap price of just £15.99 per month. (Uncapped) 1Mb at £24.99 per month.
I just heard that AOL will convert all its silver 512k broadband packages to 1Mb within the next 2 months with unlimited download for just £17.99. while Im not a great fan of AOL it should drive the price of broadband down for the rest of us.

Tiscali may well be relatively cheap, but look at the reviews on ispreview.co.uk:

Hi
I have been with Tiscali for 9 months now and have had no problems with them at all. Saying that I haven`t had to call for tech help and my speed is 2.3 Mbps. I pay 15.99 a month and have never had any problems with the accounts dept either. I am online a lot and am wondering if they will boot me off at the end of the 12 month minimum period. I am getting worried now:drool:  Timberlake Hussy Clique Member No 3  :drool:0 -

Had a look at the link you provided:

No. Complaints - MEDIUM (13)
Status - Semi-resolved (Network upgrade before end of Jan'05 expected to solve problems)
Details - Customers seem to have been hit by slow broadband speeds and related poor customer support over the festive period.

A couple of years ago Tiscali sent out over 2000 debt recovery letters. I was among them even though I had cancelled more than 4 months before (they were still trying to take payments). The debt collection agency ended up sending most of the claims back to Tiscali.
Their accounts system was in so much of a shambles, it took over 3 months before they finally admitted they were in the wrong. Countless phone calls and unnecesary stress on my part over their error.

Well said Rex! I echo your sentiments. They are a dreadful lot. They are okay----like everyone else
until you have a problem! Then they are diabolical.

I'm with BT Yahoo, it was costing me £29.99 for 1Mb broadband but they're now upgrading me to 2Mb and for 3 months it will be £27.00.
I know it's probably not the cheapest but so far (touch wood) only had one or two minor problems with them, nothing like the other ISPs I've been with.0 -
Tiscali are like Ebuyer are to PC retail crap and wouldnt go near either. Yes there are tons of complaints on adslguide about the (I leave that part out) Tiscali.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
This offer isn't uncapped, its capped at a 2gb per month download and then £1.50 per gb thereafter. Makes sense though as to get upto spending £25 on the uncapped tarrif you can download a further 9gb before you equal that price.
I'm just waiting for the upgrades (currently on 512 at £25) before I switch to this offfer.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

I had been considering moving to Tiscali for my broadband as, by offering no connection fee, they actually would have been as cheap for the first year as the budget broadband providers.
However, when I approached them with regard to migration, they were not interested and so I would have to wait for my current connection to stop and then wait again for Tiscali to start me up. Frankly we are not prepared to live with the loss of broadband for 2-3 weeks.
Other information I have seen suggests that Tiscali also do not issue MAC numbers, preventing others from migrating from them. I suppose at least that they are not hypocritical with regard to migrations.
For now at least Tiscali will not be getting my business!0
