Update on AA Auto renewal
My son telephoned AA Tonight after I looked out his original contract that he signed last year. There was 5 payment options to choose from A, B, C, D, and E. My son had chose
B - Single payment - Credit/Debit Card
But the sales person took his bank account and sort number from his debit card when my son gave it to him to process his payment and filled in option
E - Quarterly Direct Debit
He did not sign or tick any box to authorise auto renewal. Why the sales person put his bank details in i don't know, as he paid the full price with his card.
When he phoned AA again for the 4th time, they refused to refund yet again. My son asked to speak to someone higher up and was put through to a cancelations advisor. The advisor informed my son he had his contract in front of him and claimed my son had authorised auto renewal. My son pointed out he also had his contract in front of him and that he could not find anywhere on it authorising A/R.
To cut a long story short the very nice advisor agreed that they should never had taken payment from his account and is refunding the full premium including any bank charges my son incurred.
So if you are a MSE member Mr AA man and you read this post, I would like to say thankyou Very much you made a young man very happy tonight. :A :j
I think this may have got sorted sooner with the "new" information if it had been posted at the start....everything you had been told so far up to post #19 was and is still valid/correct.
I was not aware he signed up physically with a sales rep and ACTUALLY completed and signed a form in their presence, I had assumed it was an online transaction (hence references to how to get cashback etc) ... for anyone else who is reading this, automatic renewal IS a feature of the online systems...but as this wasn't an online transaction...what a merry dance we've been led....lol...I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
Pleased it got sorted i like how the cancellation manager/rep says i have the contract here, Hoping the OP/ son did not?.0

I just found this thread and have to say the AA really are quite a bunch of sharks these days.
Our membership is due to auto renew on the 25th of jan. I've noted this down and called to cancel a week or so ago, it's now the 24th of Jan.
Anyway when i called i mentioned we'd had no renewal letter, they said they were having problems with their mail. LOL
Guess what - today a renewal letter with the new cards turns up - yes today on the 24th of Jan. The letter was dated the 9th of Jan. What a coincidence hey - sure enough the price has almost doubled.
TheAA need looking into over this - i wonder how many people they catch out using this tactic? This should be illegal and hopefully someone or some group will take legal action and get them fined pretty soon.0 -
Unformtunately young men are an incredibly high risk to insurers. they are responsible for 98% of dangerous driving convictions and 93% of speeding convictions. they are also more likely than any other age group to kill one of their passengers in a collision.
Tosh. Show me the proof please.Pants0 -

Why? Take a note of the date of renewal a remember to cancel in plenty of time. Or you could be really old fashioned and send them a cheque!
What happened to personal responsibility?0 -

Why reply to give such a useless piece of advice??
If you had read my post you would have noticed that i had already cancelled in plenty of time. Please don't just randomly hack away at your keyboard to pump up your post count.
The point is that they are supposed to give you 14days notice of auto renewal. They obviously are trying to get around that by dating letters the 9th and making sure they arrive on the 24th.
I notice that you have been thanked several times for your advice on here - so i'm guessing you usually spend your time on this board in a more positive way.0 -
And have you had the refund yet?
They did this to me, letter from 24th dec arrived on the 11 jan so I cancelled on the 11th because I was not happy with the amount (£88).
Still no refund despite every time I ring they say it has been actioned & gone from their bank.
Codswallop! it does not take this long to refund.0 -

Hi there, I work for the AA and I read your comment about the late receipt of your renewal documentation. I thought it might be helpful to advise of the diffculties faced by the postal services over the Xmas period, which unfortunately delayed post from being delivered, including that sent by the AA.
We will happily addresses this for you and I invite you to call our Member Relations team on 0845 607 6727.“Official Company Representative
