I thought so too. I even thought i'd put a puffy petticoat underneath to make it a bit more girly...
Thanks for the links. The issue i've got is that this is my dress from my first weddingand a lot of the wedding dresses that aren't puffy are very similar. I showed him a picture of it and he said that it was a real shame because it was lovely. Typical!

It's my first time but his second and I'm thinking maybe I should get a longer dress, but it's not really me IYSWIM! There must be some sort of compromise to be had, you just haven't hit on it yet.
There must be long dresses that are not full on wedding gowns that will fulfill his idea of what a wedding dress should look like and what you would find ok to wear.
I know the ladies here are a helpful bunch, fingers crossed they come up with some suggestions.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I went to a family wedding a couple of weeks ago and the bride wore the "Circle" dress from here which is lovely. An added bonus is it will travel well and not take up masses of room.
Actually, I was a bit gutted when the bride walked in as I'd already earmarked the same one for myself. What are the chances of that?

Maybe something with straps? or a halter neck? They can make a huge difference to the look.

or a lace bolero? Again, changes the look completely, but being lace wont make you too hot.

or a lace "coat". You could pair that up with a pretty simple a-line dress for a classy look.

This made me smileIt might not be how you're supposed to do it, but who's bothered?!? I talked my groom into coming with me to a wedding dress shop (he really didn't want to come!) so I could get an idea of what we both liked, and then found my dress, oops
It was the first on I tried on and yes my groom has seen it but it'll look completely different on the day with all the other stuff that goes with it! And I know, that after the reaction in the dress shop, his chin will hit the deck on the day itself :T

I think going to a shop together is a great idea - to heck with "not how its supposed to be done"! If it'll save you both weeks of worry over it, do it!0

I agree with what others have said, go together and try a few dresses on to see what he thinks. You don't need to tell him which one your buying if he likes a few styles, and if you add different accessories, shoes, etc. then he's not really seen you in your wedding outfit.
