Maybe because family and friends are there? Because you grew up there so that is all you know and you certainly don't want to move from somewhere like London to Plymouth. Most importantly, that is where your job is? And you are in one of those jobs where you can't really transfer to a retirement town - Bournemouth - and do it from there?!

Need I continue running through the list?

  • I was born here, grew up here and have a good job here. I;m not leaving to potentially a nicer area admittedly, to have a cheaper house but no way to pay for it!

i think your image of bournemouth is slightly dated--there are quite a few international companies who have their hqs in and around bournemouth--it has bustling nightlife and a big uni--i have a home there but live abroad and go home summers --my family live there along with some friends--i have a new set of friends now which happens in life and a 12 hour trek gets me to my family--bournemouth is 2 hours from london--i know i used to work in london and would never settle there!!

The tropical climate and lack of rain? Being the gateway to UK/Europe so all the trucks block up our motorways, there's a lot going for it lol

Rictus i read alot of your thread youve bumped. Good on you for getting a plan together.

But I do think youre a little too optimistic as this recession has changed the construction sector from what it was and i dont think were gonna be back where we was for quite a while. Just realise that life isnt that straight forward it tends to throw a few spanners into your plans.

So long as you have a plan and put your money in the right places (good % returns) your going to do well.

    good luck mate

Yeh cheers Matty. Just getting goals and plans sorted as failing to prepare is preparing to fail! So if i have a plan and stick to it then im sure i cant go too far wrong!! Iv got time on my side and with decent plans and savings i can go far im sure. I plan to have £50k liquid from the age of 30 onwards. I never want to struggle for money. If the worse comes to the worse i want to be able to even stack shelves for NMW and still have enough to get by without too much drastic changes to lifestyle...
