All maps wiped when trying to update TomTom One

Haven't got a card reader, but I saw the file (it didn't say Maps, but just Western Europe from memory) so will try this when I get home. Have never plugged it in before, so def no back up files available. If this doesn't work I'll get on to the TomTom people...madtrekker wrote: »This happened to me once upon a time. Do you have a card reader that takes SD cards (quite often they're built into computers now or you may have a separate one that you use for a camera memory card)?
If so, take the SD card out the Tomtom and put it into the card reader. Navigate using "my computer" to the SD card and try and open it. If data is there, it will show a folder containing lots of files and the problem is likely with the Tomtom itself. The tomtom has a reset button so try that.
If there is corrupt data on the card, I'm sure that if you right click on the icon for the SD card, there is an option to repair / restore the card. This is what I did and it fixed the card.
If you can't find any data on the card or don't have a card reader try the following:
Have you ever plugged the Tomtom into the computer before (even if a long time ago)? If so, it should have made a backup of the maps. In which case you can just copy the map files directly onto the SD Card, like moving files in Windows.
Locate the folder with all the TomTom data on (should be on your computer somewhere - maybe in programme files) and copy that entire folder and it's contents to the SD Card (plug tomtom into your computer with the lead, turn on and then use it as you would an external drive by going to my computer and then E: or F: or whatever it has become. Alternatively, if you have a card reader built into your computer.I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0 -
After lots of toing & froing, they have now finally established that my tomtom can not be fixed remotely, but has to be sent off to them for repair. They will have a look at it & then send me a quote for repairing it, but I don't really see why I should have to pay for the repair if it was fine before their software wiped it... Any ide where I stand here...?I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0

did you try what worked for me?
1. borrow someone's tomtom
2. connect to a PC, open tomtom in explorer, Tools>folder options>View check "show hidden files and folders.."
3. make a new folder on desktop "tomtom"
4. hilight all files in on the tomtom device (Ctrl+A) and copy to the desktop tomtom folder
5. remove the "donor" tomtom from the PC
6. connect broken tomtom to PC
7. explore device
8. select all files - delete (or format the drive)
9. copy all files from the desktop tomtom folder onto the cleared device
10 unplug from PC, turn off and on again, reconnect to PC and load tomtom home
For me, at this point tomtom home recognised my maps were not the ones i bought, and downloaded replacements.
If you can't get a donor tomtom, I can probably upload the data from mine somewhere, about 150Mb I think..do idea where to host but i'll find somewhere
..mine only has uk maps but i don't think it will matter.
you have nothing to lose by trying..Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Thank you so much for the offer, but I had been following the tomtom support staff's instructions, and tried formatting it, before uploading new maps, but it could not be formatted, all I got was an error message. After querying this, I was adviced that "The device has become corrupt by a hardware fault. The Home software may have acted as a catalyst in this case, but was not the cause, so unfortunately, as the device is out of warranty, you will need to pay for a repair in this case." I'm totally cheesed off, but guess there's nothing I can do about it...DatabaseError wrote: »did you try what worked for me?
