Praise for Halfords

Not a fan of Halfords, TBH, but my trade card's handy....

What was good value was a local mech doing some soldering on my car for free- I'd only popped in on the off-chance to check his prices, ten minutes later I'd had a free solder!

Our local Halfords have told us that even though they advertise fitting, they're discouraged from doing so for liability reasons.

A new bulb for my Scenic costs £15 plus for £5.99 for fitting if I go to Halfords. Last time a bulb went I went to my local mechanic...he had a bulb in stock, changed it there and then and only charged me a fiver for the bulb and fitting so a big saving. I know where I would rather go! Find a reliable local place they will be far cheaper.

£1odd tops where i go for the bulb- and fit my self .. only ever use halfords for gun gum as its 73p with the trade card lol lol

Halfords offer a 'national' service...do you? I'm in Renfrewshire do you or can you tell me who offers a free bulb fitting service in my area....no local motor factors I have checked out do? When a dash bulb went no independants were interested..Halfords were and got my business!

Currys offer national services for pc servicing and data backup, does that make them better than independents? Cheaper? Of course not. I can walk down the road to my local computer shop and they will gladly back my HDD up for free (i supplied a memory stick). As such, i return business when i need it.

Did you go to garages too?

Of course there will be situations rarely where halfords are the only option but all i can say is that's rotten luck. A bit of looking and somewhere will do it cheaper.

Its not just about where i work. Some people just don't like to realise they've paid over the odds for something you may have got for considerably less.

Currys don't do bulb replacement on cars....Comet don't do it either...I think PC World would struggle too. Local garages pointed me to Vauxhall....at a mega cost. Halfords did the work for half the price of Vauxhall..Halfords is my local motor factor 4743HudsonJ how much would you charge for replacing a dash bulb on a 2005 Astra in Renfrewshire?

Honestly i wouldnt, too much time, but the garage next door would, ill have to ask. But seeing as the post was about considerably easier headlight bulbs, its a little different. Good for halfords for doing something like that, they can be a minefield to do and im surprised you found no garages capable. Perhaps there is a lack of auto electricians in your area.

Me thinks your trying to pick an argument where there is none. Why else would you post a silly response to my example of the same thing but in a different trade.
