refund argument with SKY

Having had a good few years with SKY, my son who works for virign offerd a "mates rate" which offered a really good rate against SKY.
Having considered the savings I emailed SKY and then followed up with a telephone call to confirm i will be cancelling my subscription - in 40 days time (the date Virgin were to install).
i went on my jolly hols and 7 days later recieved a email whilst i was away inviting me to conact SKY to speak to a retentions officer, and have cancellation confirmed if that is what I wanted.
When I returned from holiday i spoke to the said person who confirmed a DD will leave my account later in August, but not to worry, in September he will look at my account and ensure i got my refund.
I waited until last week and emailed SKY who confirmed there, indeed would be a refund - in my account within 48hours.
48hours later - glee! 10% of the amount agreed in my account.
I challenged - was replied with " you didn't give 31 days notice, so our accuont dept has declined the full amount"
good job i kept the emails and noted times names and dates - I replied with my facts, and now am awaiting for another non-sensicle answer from their offshore call centre.
Anyone else had problems? and is this seemingly a delay tatic to avoid refunding?

I moved house just as my contract with Sky (tv & broadband) was coming to an end. When I rang to cancel (I didn't need Sky tv now), I was talked into staying with them for broadband only - they would cancel the old contract & start a new one just for broadband. But they didn't cancel the original contract, and took the money out of my bank. Several phone calls later, after twice being promised call backs which never happened, and promises of the money being paid into my bank, I am no further forward. Oh, sorry - the original contract was finally cancelled. I have written to complain, and requested compensation for money spent on phone calls (why can't they have an 0800 number?) and the amount of time it's taking me in an attempt to get this sorted. Today's promise is that money will be returned to my bank this Thursday (or it could be Friday!). Mmmmm ..... Shall I hold my breath?0
