ah, you're back again, it looked like you got banned, what with all the swearing and hatred, about 8 of your posts got deleted due to the nastiness, the same as quite a few previous ones as well. And you've also had the distinct honour of being called a troll by tbs624 when you invaded the anti landlord thread and asked for an anti tenants thread, a rare accolade, so well done matey, and nice to see to see that you're still alive and kicking as opposed to being kicked. And, yeah man, it's good gear and if you'd like a 20 or 40 on tick till next week, but don't muck me about, then pop down the pub in a min and my man will serve you up, good and proper.

    :rotfl:

You've lost it you mad old goat, get some help. I believe some of your rambling posts were heavily edited when mine got deleted actually, so its not just me.

I believe they were the posts where you called everyone from Bulgaria 'backwards, savage, 3rd world barbarians'.
  • God!

We are normal in London! As OPs have said, Welcome, it is a great city.

It took me east and west and finally north and am happy and settled, so even if you start in one place the joy of renting means the joy of trying new areas.

Sth Ken is fab, near museums, parks and the wonderful Crescent Wine Bar! However to live there is to face the Russian transient world of London.

Hammersmith is smelly (sorry, but the main streets really stink and provide only basic amenities, as well as drunks, druggies and the dodgy frmers market!), but venturing to somewhere like Southfields may give better value andn is nice and villagey, it also has an overground for faster commuting if you don't want district to Sth Ken.

I normally wouldnt want to inflict the district line, but for a short commute it is fine!

Good luck and enjoy the tiem spent researching and getting your London Knowledge!

I would definitely say North of the river..I've lived in both for a considerable amount of time (~10 years).

If by south you mean areas like southwark or lambeth then ...naw..keep north. That's just my opinion on that.

I used to commute to South Kensington and lived in North West London ~ Cricklewood area. Not sure about rental prices but commuting was soo easy (in those days anyway). It's especially handy if there's a tube strike due to the straight Edgware Road down to Marble Arch then through Park Lane to get to the Kensington side (through hyde park). It's quite a nice journey.

    Oh I miss those days.

I'm now in East London which is lovely...and I prefer it now as it's less densely populated where I am - further outskirts than the typical east london area e.g South Woodford/Woodford Green area. But commute to london is not so great now so I only venture into london out of congestion charge zone hours and where I know parking is free:D.

Here's an example studio flat to rent in Cricklewood/Willesden Green area

sinbad : "I believe some of your rambling posts were heavily edited when mine got deleted actually, so its not just me."

No, it is mainly just you, lots of your posts have been deleted since, your post count has gone down a lot due to a number of people not liking your repeated swearing and your nasty rude obnoxious troll comments which add nothing to the debate and don't help anyone but simply exhibit your personality disorder and lack of intellect and misunderstanding of what this forum is about. You're clearly jealous of and feel threatened by people more intelligent and articulate than your sad self.
  • MostlyCheerful, you've obviously trolled my post history, so surely you will have noticed the only abusive comments ive ever made are towards you and your perpetually useless, rambling, insane, racist mini-essays. No-one else. Nothing of note has happened to my post count, ive had maybe 3-4 posts max removed.

You can throw your toys out your pram all you want, kicking and screaming about how I lack intelligence or articulation. However, all your posts prove that not only do you in fact lack these things, you're also clearly insane. Get help.

  • The more I read about Greenwich, the more I like it too, however, I presume that it is a bit too out of the way to be practical enough to get to South Ken without a stretch of a commute.

Greenwich is lovely. I grew up near there, and my parents still live there - they live next to Blackheath, but it's the Londn Borough of Greenwich, and near to Greenwich Park.

But I think it would an almighty slog daily to South Ken. I did a 5 week course in High Street Kensington when I was still living with my parents, and it was a pain just for that limited period.

It might be a bit quicker now, because you could get a train from Lewisham to Waterloo East, then the tube from Southwark, changing to the piccadilly line at Green Park. That's still a hassle, though, walk-train-walk-tube-tube-walk from door to door.

And that's assuming you are close-ish to Lewisham station, it would be a greater pain from Greenwich or Greenwich DLR, I reckon.

Splendid, so you've been following me around to get that pic. Oo er. Yeah, that was me in the park having one of my constitutional strolls (trolls). I managed to shake off the nurses for a bit but sadly I hadn't quite managed to get out of the straight jacket at that point. And no, you've had lots more posts deleted, all the ones that you were swearing in which was 8 cos your post count jumped down from 128 to 120 the other day which I took note of seeing as you're so keen to be on my radar and come on threads that I'm on and insult me so inevitably I notice and see what you're playing at. And, no, you've been insulting lots of other people as well which is why all 8 of your posts got chopped. And you've had a bunch of others go as well a few weeks ago, sorry didn't make a note of how many but it was quite a few. It was cos of your repeated insults to people and random swearing and using bolded letters to try to get the swearing past the filters and such like childishness. Bit of a loser and a numpty, aren't you. Bit of a saddo. Yes, you really must get out more or perhaps you should try to get yourself a girlfriend or something to take your mind off yourself, can't be healthy just spending all your time hating people on MSE. Yeah, I think you must be my biggest fan/stalker/troll. Yeah, great pic, I think I look quite good in that. Nice. Cool. Maybe I'll use that for my screensaver, that's a corker. Cheers.
  • Maybe this forum has gone a bit off topic but I thought i would input my opinion anyway. London is amazing...you will love it! I lived in Clapham for a while around £600 per month not including bills, and you can get to South Ken quite easily. Enjoy :)!
  • Greenwich is lovely, but it's a stupid idea to live all the way over there in the south east and commute to the west.

You are very lucky working in South Ken rather than the centre of the city in that a greater area of west london is accessible to you within a short commute. Therefore, if you want green spaces and slightly lower rents then it would be best to head out W, SW or NW.

Anyone writing off south of the river obviously doesn't know SW london very well. Lambeth, brixton, elephant and castle etc are all well to the east of where you would be looking. You would be looking much more at Battersea, Clapham Junction (which is NOT clapham), Clapham itself, wandsworth, all of which are not bad value and have some really nice areas - they are far far more green than anywhere north of the river.

It is a bit of a myth that south london has bad transport; it is starved of underground and lateral, but not radial, buses. But it has a much better train network than north london which is often more pleasant than the tube, especially once you get to know it and pick your trains. There are plenty of buses that pop just over the river to South Ken from various parts here, and as a result you can actually be much closer to work and take a cheaper journey if you aren't blind to the opportunities here. The way people talk about it you would think it were miles away rather than walking distance across a bridge! Of course, you might want to be near a tube anyway.

Heading out west you have a lot of choice, and again seeing as you like Greenwich I think it is a mistake to be looking at places like Hammersmith which is probably one of the least inspiring areas. Depending on budget, look at Wimbledon and Richmond, both very green places. Look at Putney. Look at various parts of Chiswick, Kew, even Ealing. The first two in particular are expensive in the prime areas but you don't have to go too far from the tube for rental prices to fall away much more drastically than in the centre of london. There are cheaper spots too (southfields etc) which have their own pluses and minuses.

Going NW is a bit harder as hyde park cuts off a lot of links from the north when getting to South Ken, but if you like to be urban you might find something somewhere like bayswater that is a bit cheaper.

As for access to nightlife and culture, many of the best museums and spaces are in the west (not far from where you work in fact, so you don't need to consider a different journey). If it's important to you to be near another 'scene' like the west end or whatever, that is another choice in terms of how far west you want to head.
  • ohh this thread is fab i too am moving to london next year with work and like you i have the same worries that i dont know anyone !! but its nice to know there are others like me !!
