I am in this situation, ex has gone from no jobs to low paid jobs to better paid jobs, and has decided what to contribute every time, which goes from about 10% at best of his salary (we have two children) when he's had a decently paid job, to nothing when he has a low paid one or on JSA. I have long learnt not to rely on his contributions and I do manage without, but it still doesn't make it right that he should pay only when he feels like it, but again, because I don't rely on his contribution, it makes it easy for him, our children never do without, their lives are not affected by whether he pays or not, the person who has to change her life is me. I'm sure if I were to tell the kids they can't go to a party because we can't afford to buy a present now that their dad has stopped contributing would result in a different reaction on his part, but I wouldn't do that to my kids.

I don't think not using the maintenance in your weekly budgeting means it makes it OK for an NRP to mess about with maintenance. I don't think I said or indicated I did.

I also doubt if you stopped letting your child go to their after school club they enjoyed due to funds, that your ex would suddenly up his maintenance to help you out, if he's as awkward as he sounds in your post.

No, it doesn't make it ok to mess about with CM, but it seems to make it ok for some to whinge that they are paying too much and all the MC goes to the ex rather than the kids when the ex can then afford to spend some money on herself. It's not a rule of course, but I have read quite a number of times.

And no, your right, my ex wouldn't up his maintenance indeed, but he might find it not too nice to have to answer to the kids. At the moment, he has managed to get them to feel sorry for him but they might not feel so sympathetic if it were to affect them directly.

I was all ready to set up an acct for the maintenance to be paid into, do a DD from my acct, to another. But I cant rely on it being there on a certain day, so it would mean waiting for it to come in and manually moving it to another acct, which I really dont have the time or patience for! Its meant to come in on a Friday, but sometimes its a Monday, or a two week gap etc, thats why it took me 3 weeks to realise I wasn't getting paid!

They also told me it was a DOE but its not as he got out of it yet again by paying his last lot of arrears in full to avoid it. Hes crafty, and the CSA are daft to allow him to pay by himself.
Heres hoping the next time they do a DOE

Fbaby, sorry I don't understand the link between suggesting keeping maintenance separate from monthly income/outgoings and people on a forum complaining that their maintenance they pay doesn't go on the kids. You were replying directly to me and I haven't mentioned that on this thread. We seem to be talking about two different things. I'm not getting into a PWC v NRP fight because I know there are bad and good from both sides.

Acon, I hope the shock of the reassessment not being what he expects makes him wake up a little. There's no need for him to stop his payments altogether just for a change of circumstances. Well let's hope he's been putting away the money for the missing months or that DEO might be for 40% at first to clear the arrears he's accrued.
