She is using sprung slats it's in 1st post and she said it didn't make any difference. A sprung base will make a difference how much though is the question.

Well that's my thought also. If a mattress is far too firm with sprung slats, then it could be an expensive mistake to go for a sprung divan base that will only make it feel slightly softer, and may still be uncomfortable.

I've had an idea that may work, and may not be too expensive. If she goes down her local market and buys a sheet of reflex foam about 2" deep. Then she could put it inbetween the slats and the mattress.
  • Hi guys,
interesting to read your discussion. Even more interesting that me is a she now...haha.
Never mind, really appreciate your ideas. Tim's suggestion sounds really good as in plausible and cheap.
Do you think I should cut some foam to match the slats? That way it would not cover the whole bottom side of the mattress, therefore not restricting breathability.

Sorry I just thought your log in name was based on Christine.

No just use a full sheet of reflex foam, it will be softer that way.

    Hi,
Ive bought a Healthopaedic Total Comfort 1500 6 months ago.
Ive been finding it too firm even in the summer, when higher temperatures should make it a bit softer. I bought sprung bedslats - no improvement.

If I bought a memory foam topper would that not take away the effect of the original memory foam layer as my body heat would hardly reach it?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hang round Macdonalds, the Benefit Office or Weatherspoons, you will soon find an humongous fat lass, look after her offspring, Chardonnay, India and Storm for a few hours and let her have a kip, job sorted, nice soft mattress :rotfl:
  • Hi Tim,
    thanks for your reply.
I talked to a guy in a shop that specializes on foam,
he said I was wasting my money if I put the foam under
the mattress, especially if it was reflex foam, due to its costs.

Have you tried that foam solution yourself before or is it "just"
an idea you think might work.
    Thanks.

To be honest I think he is talking rubbish. Don't buy the foam from a shop, as they charge a fortune. Either buy it from a market stall, or look up a car upholstery repairers and see if they will sell you a sheet. It will be far cheaper this way.

I'm not saying it will work wonders, but it is far cheaper than changing your mattress, and it will make a difference. Just make sure it is quite high density.
  • Cheers Tim, Ill do that.
