eBay top-rated seller, deluded returns policy

Was actually thinking of bidding on these for youngster's xmas pressie, until I read the no return policy.

Sorry, don't know if I can do link thingies.

No returns if they don't fit.
Buyer to make the claim if items lost in the post.
Offer of special delivery to buyer if they want higher insurance.

How does someone get to be an eBay top-rated seller without knowing the basic eBay rules? Or basic direct selling regulations?

Bid anyway, and if there is something wrong just go through the proper returns route, the seller would have no choice but to agree and refund.

TRS doesn't evaluate your listings, just the customers perception of their transaction.

eBay promised they were going to do something about illegal terms a year ago...so far, nothing seems to have come of it.

I realise ebay don't necessarily evaluate terms etc, but I'm just surprised that someone who uses ebay on a regular basis doesn't know the rules. Or Direct Selling regs.

I fully agree.

The problem with eBay is so many people essentially walk into full-time pro selling without realising about the legal issues. The entry barriers are so low, it's not like setting up a real shop and finding out the proper stuff to do - people just go from selling odds and ends to buying stuff to sell on without having to read up on a lot of stuff that would be useful to them. They don't treat it like the real world - it's just a nice little way of making pocket money which gets much bigger and takes over.

Trust me, loads of people walk in to selling in a real shop without knowing the rules. That is sometimes down to the fact that the rules are far too complicated. Regulations, be they taxation or consumer protection, are thought up by people who have no experience of selling or buying on a budget. Have a look at MP's expenses if you are at all unsure about this. Do not look at Euro MP's expenses if you don't want to shoot somebody, or yourself.

Totally agree. I don't let unenforceable terms put me off but I'm glad it puts others off because I get a better deal

Or find another seller with better customer care who is more likely to be responsible if something goes wrong.
