Ideas to keep a baby entertained please!!!

My 4 month old constantly cries for attention, her sister was the same. The only problem is that now I have the two of them I cannot get a thing done. If she is not being fed or sleeping she wants entertainment and interaction (understandable but unsustainable). She cries after a couple of minutes on her playmat or under her mobile....she likes to be upright but hates lying back in her bouncy chair. I have had some success sitting her up in her highchair with a little book or toy but am considering buying a jumperoo or similar. Are they worth it and which ones are good.

Any other suggestions would be great...other than baby wearing, I don't want to start doing that now.

Just to reassure you she does get loads of attention and cuddles and playtime and if she is in a chair she is right next to me and I talk/sing to both the kids but the baby still moans.

Have you thought about getting an activity station?

A jumperoo looks fantastic though! If your bubba wants to be quite active but is frustrated at their inability to move about then I can see how the jumperoo would be a hit.

  • I have three children and found that singing always worked, providing they could see me. If I was doing housework, I would just poop the little one into the bouncy chair on the floor and move it around as needed. I sang all sorts of songs, not just nursery rhymes - and most of them out of tune!

My children are now 10, 12 and 19, and we still enjoy singing when we're in the car, although we don't sing much at home. Sorry to say that all have as bad a voice as I have, but it doesn't lessen the enjoyment!

If she doesnt like lying back get a "bumbo" my neice and nephew loved them, means she can be sitting u and see whats going on

taken from mother care website but you will be able to get them cheaper through ebay, local paper or maybe even freecycle
As soon as baby can support his/her own head, Bumbo will help them sit upright
Suitable for babies 4-12mths, weighing 9-22lbs or 4-10kgs (use should be determined by baby's physical development)

    Hi

When my son was little he needed constant attention, he was not ratty but always wanted to be entertained, as he was quite a small baby I got one of those carry things (sure that is the technical term) that you use to carry the baby strapped to your chest and I used to just get on with housework dishes, laundry etc all while he waas with me strapped on. He loved it because he was moving around constantly I was able to talk to him all of the time while still getting things done.

My nephew however who is only one was far to heavy for one so whenever I babysat for him it meant long hours of sitting keeping him amused while no housework got done.:D

Whatever you do dont resort to the electrical babysitter (tv) because all of the kids I know whos parents do that end up uncommunicative, ratty and withdrawn. Far better bore them with the sound of your voice then bore them with c-beeebies.

I would also suggest a Bumbo until she can sit unaided, one of those and a selection of toys that make a noise keeps my baby entertained very nicely!

I always took mine with me and blethered on constantly to them. They used to get a detailed running commentary on me cleaning the bathroom or chopping veg etc., which sounds really boring, but they really enjoyed it!
Here I go again on my own....

Try Spongebob, Peppa Pig, Bob-the-Builder, Fireman Sam, Thomas-the-Tankengine. They all make excellent baby-sitters...

    A baby carrier?:p

Would a door bouncer thingy be any good?

My DD was the same and she hated her Jumperoo. I ended up just not doing any housework until OH came home, and it has been like till till she was around 13 months. TBH it's such a short time in their life and in yours I'd just do what you need to to get through it. The world won;t end if you don;t do housework in the day but your baby will benefit so much from your attention. I know I only have one, but my friend has 4 and she says the same thing!
