So 1 tester says the tyres are fine and another fails them, and you are happy with that? Very little room of opinion on tyres.

So the super strength sills were rusty then eh!

Two tiny holes that require spot welding, hardly cause for replacing all the sills! all cars after a couple of years have some rust and this was only one sill not all the sills (outer, inner & centre reinforcing as originaly claimed)

so the first tester was right about the sills needing welding then?

my oh is an MOT inspector and he doesn't have vendettas against older cars, in fact its what we drive around in mainly, he does however have to stick to the VOSA testers manual. he doesn't however like the idea of dangerous cars on the road and if you saw some of the things he's tested and failed you would be very grateful to him.

they do no repairs where he is, only MOTs so there is no impetus to fail things to make work

Wrong two tiny spot welds not on all the sills, everyone wants a safe car, the first tester I can assume did not stick to the manual as he ripped off underseal. According to VOSA they can only test what they can see, not rip off underseal so according to VOSA that is not in the manual! By thoses actions can I then assume he followed the rest of the testers manual? It is in the hands of VOSA now.

No not happy, tester 1 thought tyres were fine, tester 2 found that one of the rear tyres had cords petruding through tyre wall and on the inside. This causes me great concern as to me a major safety issue the tyre could blow out and I fail to see how tester 1 did not spot this while on the ramps. IMO he just appeared to be obsessed with rust and missed what was right in front of him.

  • At the end of the day some posters can attack us all they like, this is supposed to be a forum on money saving. Scrapping a car that does not need to be scrapped is a total waste of money.

As we said originaly we did not expect the car to pass, it is an old classic but like all old cars it will have problems. If we had listened to the first tester there would have been a huge ammount of welding to be completed and we would still have had a dangerous tyre on the car. Never have we wanted to compromise on safety the point of the MOT is to see if the car is fit on the day and if not rectify it. But there is a world of difference between these two MOT's and yes the second tester new this could well be going to VOSA so it was in his best interests to be thourough.

    Thanks to helpful replies.
