its always been good practise to run a seperate spy/malware program.. even from back in the day with spybot and lavasoft adaware etc to malware bytes now..

same with a firewall, a router is hardware and a software firewall is always recomended. majority of remote hack programs can bypass the windows firewall so i wouldnt rely on that.. (a crypted file may get past your av package for a while before it becomes detected so the firewall would be needed)..

I have suggested using malwarebytes as a secondary manual scanner, as AV scans for all types of malware, secondary resident scanners will just slow everything down with little or no benefit, the av software is scanning for the same thing

Ditto third party firewalls, a typical user doesn't know the difference between a good program name, and a bad one, so will allow every access when prompted. The primary responsibility of a firewall is to stop people hacking in, which a nat router, and windows firewall both do capably. If you've got a nat router, you don't even need windows firewall.

You can never guarantee malware won't get through, but bloating up and slowing down a pc with software in case you hit on the undetected 1% of malware out there, is not best practice imo. I'm not aware of any manual of best practice, so each user has to decide how to evaluate the risks and take reasonable steps to defend against malware without crippling the computer.

If you look at all the slow pc threads on here, they are often gunged up with increasing bloated security apps, adaware, avg, spybot, superantispyware, rapport, comodo, zonealarm, registy boosters and tweakers, defraggers, which when combined make the pc experience dire

My Kasperesky Internet Security 2010 is coming up for renewal in 13 days. Are there any offers for this at the moment? - I got the present one at PC World at a cheaper price (special offer) than renewing the one I had.

Costco are doing special offers at the moment on this product.

Sorry if this is a dumb question I am assuming that Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 includes an Anti Virus component. It doesnt say explicitly but I am assuming it does. Reason I ask is that there is also a seperate Antivurus product on thier website.
    Thanks

If check the comparisons you will see that KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security) gives more comprehensive overall protection
