losing connection

Hi I'm with Sky and have a desktop upstairs in the bedroom with the router and use a laptop downstairs. Over the past couple of weeks I've been losing my connection regularly when using the laptop and the sky router page comes up saying there is no connection and to try later. The computer upstairs has never lost connection though. I've rebooted the router a few times but it still keeps happening. I'm not aware that I've changed any settings although the system was running slowly a little while ago and I ran CCleaner and got rid of everything it suggested. Can anyone suggest where I might start looking to resolve this problem please?
TIA

    what make laptop ??

what version of windows xp/Vista ??

it may be the makers own software manging the connection and windows does a better job

also , when you look at wireless netwroks are there any other sky routers nearby ?? we may need to change to manual channel selection in the router rather than automatic

  • Hi - thanks for getting back to me....
it's a Lenovo laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1. I checked the channels using inSSIDer - I'm on channel 6 there's a Belkin on the same channel, another Belkin on 12 and a BTHomeHub on 1

I am having a very similar problem. I've got two laptops running one's a HP and the other toshiba both running Win 7. My router is no more than 100 meters away from either machine. There seems to be no reason for it! I've checked all my settings and they are fine have confirmed it with sky as well! Apparently sky are going to look into this as it's happening to a friend who lives a few roads away.

    go to

    www.windowsupdate.com

and choose custom , then look at the hardware updates , see if there are any updates for your wireless card or the software that manages it

Rubbish! You have been told that channels 1, 6 & 12 are in use, so why do you say that channel 11 is best?

It depends on the relative signal strength of the local channels in use, but channel 3 or 4 would be a better choice, due to less channel overlap:

The link just takes me to a page where it tells me to use the start menu for updates - I don't get any options to choose from ......
