  • Hi all,

I called the DLA team first thing this morning and the person I spoke with was very helpful, said that they'd pass on the request to the relevant section and that I'd hear from them in a few weeks. I was also told that DLA is normally paid every four weeks and it isn't a weekly benefit so I'm just hopeful they change my payments to weekly as it would be so much easier for me to budget as with getting the lumpsum every month it's quite a bit of a temptation really, thanks again.

It might be different for single parents - I seem to remember being told last year that some benefits were changing to fortnightly - it's cheaper for DWP or something. Tax credits are paid by HMRC - not DWP - they may have different rules.

  • I get my DLA, SDA and IS paid weekly - always have and didn't ask for it that way - all paid every Wednesday
    :j £2 coins = £2.00 :j
  • My IS was changed from weekly to fortnightly this time last year - I had no choice about it and it meant that I had to go 3 weeks before I got the right money - oh, and they 'lent' me a bit from my benefit 'to help' - then promptly took it back over the next couple of payments at a rate much higher than that usually used for social fund payments.

This September they've decided to not notice I've told them five times - via letter, telephone call and exasperated sigh - that DD1 has moved out. They have therefore 'because I have failed to advise them to the contrary' stopped the severe disability allowance because I don't get child benefit for her any more (that's because she doesn't live here - duh), so I must, as they can't find any record of any of my communications, have an adult living here that could feasibly take care of me and claim benefit for it (which she doesn't because she isn't).

So I'm £100 short a fortnight and they still haven't sorted it out after six weeks.

Unless you're desperate, I'd suggest you leave things well alone.

  • Hi all,

I have a really simple query, is it possible to have DLA paid weekly instead of monthly?
I would find it easier to budget having the money paid weekly and I didn't want to call them about this incase it wasn't an option.

    Thanks for your help.

Simple answer for a simple question - yes you can get DLA weekly, all you have to do is ask.
