Sky offer to good to be true?

My dad got a visit from a sky rep today, he was talking about people in the area being over charged for virgin media and tried to get him to change to sky.
My dad is on Virgins XL package with a V+ box (XL tv, free evening and weekend calls and 20mb bb with no monthly limit) he also has an extra box in the bedroom (standard box). he pays around £60 for all this
The sky rep offered Sky+ HD, 20mb BB (guessing with 2mb monthly cap), free evening and weekend calls and multiroom for....... £40 per month.
The guy wouldn't leave and pestered for ages about how "dave and ivy" down the road was paying the same for virgin and was over the moon about the savings. also he offered savings for pensioners, although he didn't say what they were. my dad wouldn't say yes as he doesn't do dealings over the doorstep.
is this offer too good to be true? if he was to phone sky would they offer the same thing deal?
i've had a look on skys website and to get the same as he's getting now (+HD box, extra standard box, espn (free on his Virgin XL pack), unlimited 20mb BB, free/evening calls) it would come to £75 per month so i don't know how this sales person could offer it for £40.

Does it matter what the deal was? why would you deal with a company that employs cretins that wouldn't leave and pestered an OAP?
But if you are happy to put up with it for a few £s savings get EVERYTHING in writing as it was probably a load of hot air.0 -
Was it an introductory 3-month offer at the low price, escalating to a higher price afterwards?0

he didn't actually say if it was introductory, but after talking to an ex sky sales man on another site it would have been. he would have paid £40 per month for 3 months then the price would have shot up without notice and by then you are tied in for 12 months.
apparently this is what sky have told their door to door sales to do, this is why he quit the company.
a few years ago if someone from sky came to my door and asked who my broadband and tv was with and i said virgin they would just walk away because they knew they couldn't beat it.
now it seems like they are told to lie through their teeth, after checking sky broadband in my area is 2.8Mb/sec whereas my speed is 15Mb/sec.0
