Multi Centre- LV-SF-LA.

Options
Hi All,

Mr LM and I want to go to Vegas next September, we are planning to stay there for 4/5 days (too long?) and then maybe fly to LA and/or SF spend a few days there too before flying home.
Has anybody done this? We have never been to either place before so are complete novices.
We aren't (majorly) into gambling, although a little flutter won't hurt i guess, we will prob want to see a show or two, plus shopping and visit the Grand Canyon also.
LA- i guess more shopping, star spotting, maybe some tours?
Would have to fly from London i guess, or maybe Bristol if poss.

Haven't really got a budget yet as such but i'd say prob £800pp (not including spends) is this doable?

A multi-centre (LV-SF-LA) Sounds really good but don't know where to look.

Any advice/suggestions/recs greatly appreciated.

Tripadvisor is great, but there a re multiple threads on this website discusing the same topic that will also be helpful.

I laughed out loud at you wondering if 4 days in LV was too many.....add a couple of zeros on to the 4 and you would be closer to the truth :D

    LV - LA is drivable.
    LA - SF is drivable
LV - SF is NOT drivable (not unless you fancy 12+ hours in the car)

So, either fly to SF, then drive to LA, then on to LV and fly home from LV or fly.
SF - I spent 3 full days there. That's enough.
LA - I've been 3 times on holiday and 25+ times on business. I don't particularly like the place. Just stop there before a flight home normally. Too much traffic. Too spread out. 2 or 3 days max
LV - Been 7 times, I think. I could spend a month there and not get bored (and i'm not a gambler either).

Multi center is definitely the way to go (when you're in vegas try out 2 or more hotels too!)

Went to LV last year. Found that a couple of days on the strip was enough. Too brash. But once you get away from there then 4 days won't be enough

    Grand Canyon
    Red Rock
    Hoover Dam

I plan on another trip over there with a couple of mates next year.

    A car is a must!!!!!!!!!

We got married in LV 9 years ago and booked through United Vacationss (part on united airlines). We got 2 free stopovers and were able to choose or flight times to suit. ended up with the following

    10 nts LV
    5 nts Phoenix
    4 nights New york.

To get from LV to Phoenix we needed to go via LA SO we flew early morning to LA had the day there then flew evening to Phoenix. Phoenix to Newyork meant going via SF so again did the same with over night flight to New york.

Would definately recommend them. All flights and either 4 or 5* hotels came to £2010 for both of us. That was in travelling in July.
  • We got home from LV, SF and LA two weeks ago!

We hired a car and drove from LV but we did it over 3 days, staying in Death Valley and Yosemite along the way. I would say 5 nights in LV (although agree its a great place and a week is not long enough for some) then fly to SF for 3 nights (not a huge city and this will be enough time to do and see what there is worth seeing and doing).
Drive to LA, taking in Carmel, Monterey and Big Sur along the way. The scenery is awesome and well worth stopping to have a look, there were elephant seals all over the beaches at Big Sur when we drove through.:)
3/4 nights in LA, loads to see and do there if youve never been, Universal Studios, Santa Monica, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood, Chinese Theatre, Redondo, Venice Beach, the list goes on.
Travelbag can help, they can book all hotels, flights, car hire for you and then give you a total. You could then research yourself to see how much cheaper you could it without a travel agent?

    Enjoy!

Thanks all, we don't drive so that's out of the question, i have looked and it seems we would have to fly LGW-LV, LV-LA, LA-SF, SF-LGW. Which isnt too bad.
7062- Have checked out United Vacations, they have the "golden triangle" multi-centre trip which is £799 (based on march 2011) so im hoping september comes up similiar.

Are there any areas to avoid in SF & LA?

I think you'll probably find it's not worth going to LA if you don't drive. Why not substitute LA for a more accessible city?

Thanks CubeGame. Do you really need a car in LA? One of my friends went there and she doesn't drive and had no problems.
    What other cities are there?

Of course you can do whatever you please, but having done several multi centre trips to the USA over the years, we usually find that two places are enough and that 3 is one too many.

We also prefer NOT to drive.

Flight costs can mount up on a 3 centre stay, not to mention the waste of time that is getting to airports and hanging about in airport lounges, collecting luggage etc etc..

So, how long are you thinking of going for in total ?

Also, I am wondering if you had to choose 2 of the 3 out of LV, LA and SF which you would choose.

Have been to them all and can possibly help on that score :)
