Which wireless modem?

I want a "Wireless / USB / Ethernet ADSL modem" but which one should I get as I want to have both my laptop and my pc on broadband at the same time?

  • The Netgear DG834G has been excellent for me. Easy set up, free tech support (but not needed), great little piece of kit. It doesn't have USB connectivity, but has 4 ethernet connections (so 4 pc's connected by wires) plus wireless. I've been using mine for 6 months with 2 pc's wired, 1 wireless pc connection and my xbox connected via another netgear wireless ethernet bridge.

Amazon currently have it for £69.99, which is £40 less than when I bought it.

I'm still happy with the price I paid though, it's been great. There are others out there, which I've heard varying reviews about, but don't think I've seen a bad review about this one. Amazon are also stocking the new smaller version of it, which of course I now want lol.

It's also packed full of great security features to keep out those nasty people who want to mess up your pc.

    Hope this has helped.

  • Also, there is now the Netgear DG834GT, which is basically the same thing, but faster, and £50 more. This wont make any difference at all to your broadband speed, all it would do would speed up any file swaps between your laptop and pc, which for me, doesn't really need to be that fast. Oh, it's wireless range is also a bit better, but wont make much difference unless you've got a 100ft garden you want to sit at the end of and surf the net. Mine has had a range of about 50m, which is plenty for me.

    Hope this has also helped

Thanks, what a true moneysaver you are!
  • I'm using the Netgear DG834GT which I bought a few days ago. It came with a free laptop card and was £115 in total from Simply Computers. I agree with the above comments: the set up is easy and the online help is tremendous.

The speeds are great anywhere in the house.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

I used the Linksys WAG54G and it seems to be very good, a few people have used the DLINK 904 kit which comes with a free USB Dongle as well, I think it is 79.99 in the BT shop (remember if you use Greasypalm you get 2% back)
