Halifax Clarity - Rejected

I have tried to apply for a Halifax Clarity CC and have been rejected several times. I have a good, permanent job that pays well. There are no issues on any of my credit files and as far as I can tell Halifax have not even done a credit check. I am on the electoral roll. I am a homeowner. I am also a Halifax customer (I have an old ISA and some share dealing accounts)

Anyone have any idea why I do not meet the Halifax criteria?! Anyone else been rejected and don't understand why?!

HELP!

Have you checked all three of the main CRAs?

Could be that you just don't meet their internal score, raing or whatever.

Have checked all three (although a Halifax branch worker told me they used experian) and there is nothing bad on any of them and no indication Halifax has checked any of them.

I wonder what there internal score is based on.

If you're already a Halifax customer, it could be something you did (or didn't) do.

Did you move an account from them? have you ever been in "trouble" with Halifax or any of its group of companies? Lloyds, RBOS etc etc

I know Lloyds TSB have a barking CPD marker they slap on people which would mean instant refusal.

  • Have you already got several cards/large loans/ large credit pool?

It could be that you generally have a good credit record etc but the if you've already got a large pool of credit available or multiple lines of credit the company will not want to offer you a new line.

They've declined you as a result of something in your relationship with them.

This could be something naughty in the past, or it could simply be that you still have an open credit card account with them - possibly one that you've forgotten about?

It could be the previous owner of your house that's notched up bad credit.

Though all depends on how long you've been there. Also if you're in a flat in a house with other owners or renters with bad credit -- might be that.

Ultimately you could ask them and make it clear you will take your custom/business elsewhere.

I'm with Halifax myself and with Barclays and I can say the Halifax current account and savings account online are pretty good - dare I say somewhat better then Barclays!
Barclays statements only go back 30 days and are confusing to say the least.

Now if you have their (Halifax) current account and just whip in a £1000 for a day each month they pay you a £5 a month.(you could actually have the same grand going through your wives, mum, dad etc each paying out a £5 to each in theory)

And the point is they soon offer you their credit card.. which you can see a advisor in the branch to set up best if it fails online or by forms... and just say about the Clarity card might be better for you.

What are you on about, its absolutely nothing to do with the previous owner,or if you live in a flat with the previous owners having bad credit.

They check you the applicant not who used to live at that address!!

No open card account with them. Nothing naughty in the past as far as I know. I did withdraw a large portion of my ISA savings account a few years ago and have not topped in up since.

In answer to another poster, I do have a sizeable credit pool elsewhere but as far as I can tell, Halifax have not done any credit checking and so they can't be basing their decision on that.

It will be an internal credit policy decline then, automatic with no checking at the CRAs
