Help for my Nan

I said over sixty, did not say how much over sixt. When my grand needs help I will always try and help her if it is at all possible, thank you very much.
Irrespective of how old she is, she is an adult who has a job, so she is more than capable of sorting this out herself. Maybe she wants to leave it and not cause a fuss? If so, she won't welcome you interfering.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Wishing has asked for advice about the accident and the way the firm has behaved. I don't see any reason why she/he should be getting told what Nan should be able to do on her own! None of us know the personal circumstances of either person involved.
It's nice to see a younger family member caring about a grandparent. Good for you, Wishing.0 -
Should I start to compose a letter for my nan to sign tonight and send to her eemployer stating the events of the accident and for her firm to confirm that it is in the accident book.
Or should this be a grievances instead.
Thanks for advice so far.
Having the company 'confirm' that it is in the accident book really does not cut it. The way things have been handled, they are very likely to write something blandly reassuring like 'I can confirm that the accident has been noted', which is actually weasel words for 'It is not it the accident book, but we would like to pretend to you that it is'.
She must go and see the accident book herself and create merry hell if her accident is not in there - she should enter it herself if necessary. She has an absolute right to see this for herself and she must not allow herself to be fobbed offHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks for help. I feel Nan should not contact her work place just now as she is not in a good health and able to cope with them at present. I will get her to see her GP on Monday for a certificate for her firm.
When Nan went to the admin office to report the accident…. the person there only took a brief note on a piece of paper of what had happened and my Nan’s personal details. He did not ask her for full details of what had happened or if anyone else was there at the time of the accident.
I feel if she writes to her firm and sends full details of what actually happens at least it would be a written record of what took place as well as letting them know the uncaring attitude of the managers at the time.

She also needs to name any witnesses and who she reported to after the accident and their reaction ... I hope she feels better soon...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

If you go down this route, you are cheating your Nan of proper recognition of her accident and you will be an accomplice in hiding the facts.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Can nan phone her firm and ask them to send her a copy of the entry in the accident book and follow this request up in writing. Are employers legally obliged to send my nan a copy of the entry in the accident book.
Or will my nan have to wait until she is well enough to go and see her employer and asked to see the accident bookor can she ring H&S organisation telling them what happened and see what they suggest.
Not sure how I can help her now....0 -
I am going to tell Nan to ring a first aid perso next week and ask that person to look in the accident book to see what had been entered on it when she reported the accident. Also to tell him/her that she left it with a person in the admin office and he told her that it would be entered there. Dose employers have to comply with this request or can they just ignore it. I am very upset for my nan and hope I can sort this our for her as I think it is very important that she at least gets the accident noted in the staff accident book.
I am upset for the way the manager said to her directly after the accident that she was damaging the company equipment and I am also upset that the manager did not make sure that the first aider did not attend her at the time of the accident and my nan had to wait until her break time to go to admin and report the accident as well as relying on colleagues for tablets to help her with the pain.
This cannot be right for a very large company to treat their employees like this or maybe I am wrong....
Any thoughts on how I can help her would be greatly appreciated........0 -

They do sound rather uncaring. The remark about the damaging company equipment, I really think was one of those silly jokes people make, perhaps he was trying to make her laugh. It's the sort of thing people say to each other at minor accidents all the time. But they should also have made sure she was ok, it sould have been reported in the accident book. But as for waiting for the first aider and having to go to admin in her break - did she really tell them she was in pain? A lot of people brave it out or don't want to make a fuss. If she was really in that much pain she wouldn't have carried on working, that's what I would think as an employer (and I've been a first-aider at work too). Perhaps she wasn't taken seriously because she didn't let them know it was serious.
Also, a first-aider is not allowed to give any pain killers and painkillers are not allowed to be kept in work first-aid boxes.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Concerning the accident book, I doubt you could force them to send you a copy, but sending Nan a copy would be a good way for them to prove that they had recorded it, so I would expect a positive response. If they are difficult about this, then they are just making things hard for themselves.
Concerning getting Nan treated properly, I think that insisting on the Accident Book having an entry is a good way of showing that they don't mess Nan about - which will hopefully get them more in the right mind about dealing with these things.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
