Watch out for people trying to rip you off at the toursit spots - one scam is for someone to walk past you, 'Wow!' they find and amazing 'gold' ring and 'does it beolng to the beautiful lady?' (ie you, the naive tourist), No? She must accept it anyway; if you enter into conversation with them it transpires that they are very hungry, haven't eaten for day, maybe, while they couldn't accept a thing for the solid gold ring, perhaps a few euros for dinner wouldn't go astray. Needless to say, the ring isn't gold, and you've been scammed.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

If you can, get hold of a book called Paupers' Paris by Miles Turner.
The latest edition I can find is rather long in the tooth (1997) but we found (an earlier edition) invaluable when we went in 1994.0 -
