Mobile calls from abroad

can any one help?
My husband is away (in the services) and i am trying to find a cheap way for him to phone me from abroad on his mobile.
Also can i call him cheap on his mobile from my land line or mobile.

For him to call you is likely to be the most expensive option.

Remember if you call him you will still pay the same price as if he was in the UK and he will pay to receive the call.

Really need to know the UK network your husband's phone is on (contract or PAYG) and what country he is in to give specific advice on the various options.

he is going to sierra leone and is on 3 mobile contract. at home we are with talk talk

Roaming costs of UK phones in Africa will be high, whether for incoming or outgoing calls.

Look into him getting a local SIM card, used in an unlocked phone, then his incoming calls are free and you could call him using cheap calls providers listed in the MSE Callchecker for under 10 pence a minute.

If he made outgoing calls to UK, these seem to cost about 18p to 30p a minute with those local SIMs, so perhaps he makes a quick call and you call back.

Just a quick thought - does he have internet access - try using Skyp ?
I work offshore Brazil and use it all the time and its free.

It is quite expensive to call back to the UK from here in SL, and Skype is not very reliable, but I have found dialaround to be the best way for the other half to call me, to my work mobile it is 9p per minute. Hope he is enjoying it, it is an amazing place to work!

unfortunaely he will be doing an exercise in the jungle so not there for very long when he can call me. they ought to do mobile for people in the forces as he only gets 20 mins call a week and the kids use most of that at the moment as they have just started school and have so much to tell him!
never mind!
