Pending Transaction that did not go through

What happened was I tried to buy flight tickets on a website using my debit card, just as I clicked submit when entering the payment the website came up with an error but the money was taken off my available balance, it has been pending now for a week in the bank, the airline company wont claim it and the bank still have it as pending, does anyone know what will happen and how long it stays at pending before it goes back into you account?

The bank said I have to call the airline company which I did and well basically they said they cant do anything because technically they don't have the money and wont be requesting the money.

Is it Barclays by any chance? If a payment is authorised but not claimed by the company then it usually gets reapplied back to the available balance after 7-10 days. The money is in your account but not available to spend.

    Thanks for your reply

Nah it's RBS, but yeah I have an overall balance and then an available balance, my available balance is minus the flight tickets which has been like that almost a week.

It'll be the same even though it's RBS. Wth Barclays, we can see the expiry date on the authorisation, and can tell customers when the authorisation will be removed. I don't know if RBS advisers can, but it shouldn't be too much longer!

Flight companies are notorious for this and debiting payments twice!

With RBS it is 48 hours from the transaction time for a pending card payment to become available again. They cannot cancel the transaction, but can give you the auth code. Some companies can cancel the payment with their merchant with the auth code if there is an error, cancelling the transaction.

I have seen it take longer with certain retailers, so call them up, request the auth code and tell the airline to contact their merchant (card processor) to cancel the payment. The reason the bank can't cancel it is tht they cannot verify whether the transaction has occured or not.
    Best Regards

I received an authorisation code which I tried to give to the airline but they said they can't do anything and that the bank will refund me in 7-10 days as they will then know that they wont be requesting the funds, it does not help that the airlines first language is not English and they are based in Portugal I guess.

It's not a refund, the money hasn't left your account.

I called the bank today and they said I basically have to wait on it "dropping off" whatever that means, I assume it means until the pending transaction expires, she said maybe another few days, so fingers crossed

............ it should be a maximum 7 working days from the date of the transaction. So 10 elapsed days at most - as we're not in a Bank Holiday window.

I have a reoccuring payment set up on my account every month. For some reason, once its taken it still remains on my available balance, then 5 or so days later it drops off because its already been taken once.

Dunno why it does this mind
