We went through this with our cat Mog about three weeks ago. Like yours she hid away and I was told my the vet to keep the ''cone of shame'' on her for two full weeks. She stayed away for a good three days from us and I felt terrible, made us realise how much we all loved her. It took her a good week to start coming around us for cuddles again so Im sure your kitty cat will come out soon too. :)
  • Our little foundling female cat came back from the vets complete with e-collar; she was so pathetic in it and obviously distressed (very upset she couldn't groom her face) that we took it off that night. Bless her she was a model patient and didn't touch her stitches at all. However my sisters cat managed to rip out her stitches the very next day, so she was straight back to the vets. The vet made the point that on closer examination, the wound was almost healed and there was little point putting more sutures in. And the cat was perfectly fine and healed incredibly fast.

You've done something the furry little boss of the house disagrees with - that's worth at least a fortnight of feline sulking!!!

Ours complains endlessly if I so much as roll over in bed and disturb her - you took yours to the V-E-T!

She'll come out of it - if all else fails - try Operation Tuna :D

Oh thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. :)

She's been a little more sociable today, but doesn't stick around for long-she bumps into things as she walks around and scares herself half to death in the process!

she's got such a moon face (she's a british shorthair) she fills the entire width of the collar, I have to say I thought ten days was a long time but the vet was very clear about it and said it MUST stay on.

Worse still I'm supposed to take her back for a check up on Monday, I'm not confident at all I'm going to be able to get her back in the carrier, especially when she has to go back 7 days after that to have the stitches out.

We had this a couple of weeks ago with our cat Missy. The kittens were 12 weeks old and weaned when I took her to be done. They did a more complicated proceedure as I wasn't 100% sure that she hadn't been, umm... "active" at night and thought that there was a possiblity she was pg again. She wasn't, thank goodness, but I was told to keep her away from the other (5) cats, not let her out, and to keep the collar on for 10 days.

Kept poor old Missy in the conservatory, had to clean her after she used the litter tray as she was miserable and filthy, and watched as the kittens cried at the door (fully glassed) to their mum :(

After 3 days, I took her back to be checked over (she launched herself into the cat basket, I think hoping that the collar could come off, lol) and she was fine. By the time we got home, she had removed the collar herself I simply could not keep it on her. It was only staying on for 10 mins at a time by day 4, off all night when I slept, so I just gave up on it.

She was SO much happier, even shut in the room unable to go outside. After a week, I let her do as she pleased.

She now hates the kittens, and we're right back to square one with her being affectionate (she was a rescue cat, supposedly is spayed..hmm) but she will cuddle up to me when I sleep at night. And I'm sure she is only like that now because I had to keep her alone for so long :(
