Impact of bank refunding charges

I bank with LloydsTSB and have done so for many years. Both my Husband and me have personal accounts, business bank accounts, personal loan accounts and business loan accounts with them.
Over the past 6 years we have paid probably in excess of £3000 in the 'unlawful' charges on 2 personal accounts. Although we are now much more solvent than we were a few years ago.
I am considering writing to the bank asking for these charges back but we are both concerned that the bank may insist that our accounts are closed after we challenge them.
Does anyone know if they can insist on all our accounts including business and loan accounts be closed if we are challenging their charges on our 2 personal accounts (1 of which we closed around 4 months ago).

Yes.
First step is to open a 'parachute' account somewhere else JIC.

I am in much the same position but because of the charges imposed by my bank, they have affected my credit score so that I keep being turned down by other banks - a problem when we need a joint account and also a business account. This is happening despite our not having had any charges for months as we are being so careful. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know whether you can still pursue the bank if they have refunded some of your charges? Mine has refunded some £800 but this leaves thousands still not refunded..... Hope someone can help as I cannot take the recommended action until I get another bank account, and I'd be interested to know how many other people are being prevented from taking this action by their inability to obtain another account.0

When you say a parachute account do you mean just for the personal accounts we're challenging or will we need to open a whole set of accounts to match our existing 6 accounts?0

You should cover every eventuality. Banks have and will close accounts in some circumstances.0
