    Disable the drive and reboot.

    Have you actually attempted the solution in post #2?

    i haven't gone through the process myself, i went on to the microsoft website and used the fix for me option.
    whrn you say disable the drive and reboot, do you mean press the disable button in the driver tab and then restart my pc? (sorry for being thick)

    donnie, i have done as you suggested and there is no change.
    i have looked at this link http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/hardware/hq69.html
    and it says to UNINSTALL the driver.

    i have tried uninstalling and restarting my PC and the following message appears.
    device driver software was not successfully installed.
    please consult with your device manurfacturer for assistance getting this device installed

    I've had that page open for 3 days on my PC, but wasn't sure if you were capable of carrying out the steps involved. ;)
