Currys and the techguys

Hi,

This is my first post as first real issue I have had, and not much of an issue just needing clarification.

I purchased a laptop from currys last November. It has worked fine up until recently when it started to reboot itself everytime you logged off. As still under warranty I sent it to repair to the Techguys.

They have decided that a new motherboard is required and on order. Now 28 days later the part has still not arrived so today spoke to the Techguys regarding a replacement as the warranty states repair within 28 days. Apparently it takes 7 days to get a code to write off my old laptop so I can then visit a Currys store and collect a replacement.

My only concern is that the laptop I originally bought is no longer stocked and so worrying where I stand regarding the replacement.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You should be looking to get like-for-like, both in terms of specification and quality.
  • Oooooooooh Dear, Tech Guys strike again!

Why, if they CANNA FIX IT, they'll reformat it instead. Plenty on this bored about the Boys from that Parish

As above, spec for spec is what your entitled too, dont worry if the vouchers you get are too low for the laptop you need as they can call to approve more vouchers.

If you have whateverhappens (which it sounds like you do, given that it's awaiting a voucher code), it'll be like for like.

If it's under the manufacturer's warranty, you'll get the full purchase price as a credit

It's only under the manufacturers warranty, that's what's worrying me.

don't forget though...spec for spec may not be a good thing....laptops have advanced quite a bit in the last year, what was top spec for £xxxx then is probably a lower spec today for similar money....get the best you can get with the refund money...

Then why are they getting a write-off code? Oh well...you'll have your original purchase price for a new one

I spoke to Tech guys and was told that they were ordering parts and under the warranty they have 28 days to do this...it was the 28th day yesterday and so I asked the guy who I spoke to at Techguys what would happen. After checking with someone he came back and told me that if they haven't managed to repair it within the 28 days then it would be written off and replaced.

He then said I have to wait a week to obtain a write off code and then just take that into store for a replacement.

Just have to see what I can get for my money...hopefully the same or similare model as was very happy with how the laptop worked.

Thanks for your help. Like I said no real problem just a concern.

I wouldn't expect it to be the week they are promising you to get a code. I'n now into my 17th day since they did my "original write off request and judging by what I'm gettingtold on the phone I don't hold out much hope of it coming any sooner than another 10 days. Good luck, hope you get better luck and service than me!
