I went into one carpet shop on that little trading estate (there are 2) & said I had a budget of around £15 sq, they said they couldn't help me they didn't do anything that cheap:eek:

£15sqm including or excluding underlay and fitting etc?

That is daft, really daft... Some people just don't want the business...

Funniest we had was one local, independent carpet who could supply the carpet (supply only - if they didn't fit it) than if they supplied it and fitted it (ie the cost of the "carpet only" element of a supply and fit package)...

Alisha, my nan is always going on about how great Angolds in Bagshot is, which isn't far from you.

I should really take my own advice and go and get a quote from there too. Didn't realise Carpet Right could be beaten on price! Good luck! x

We went to an independent shop in West Byfleet today and got a good quote for all the house (laminate, carpets & vinyl in the bathrooms). Then we go to another shop in Guildford and got almost the same quote. We might take a look at Angolds...

Sadly we cannot have the type of carpet I put on my first post, as the cats can easily destroy it pulling the threads with thier claws, and we don't want to risk it... :(

We'll probably go for a normal carpet with a mixture 80/20, although we didn't see anything cheaper than £18....

    Something like this:

I find it a bit boring... but with the cats it's the only safe thing!

    Thanks to all again.

I would disagre this is really daft. Some retailers do not wish to supply below a certain standard of carpet - they sell products they are happy to sell and not have to worry about problems occurring later on. They've selected their market, that's all. We used to have a base line product standard below which we would not go. Other retailers sell according to price - some don't sell below a certain price per sq metre because they make more money per sale. Same time and effort to sell and measure up for a cheap cloth as for a more costly one.

Another consideration is just not the pile content but weight of the cloth too. Heavier weight cloth, closer texture pile and generally longer lasting. We used to find 80/20 mix optimum. And most important of all do not fit new carpet over rubbish underlay (or aged underlay).

Also I would never buy a product with free fitting and underlay included. There is no such thing as free fitting nor free underlay!
