I've read a fair few reviews and i'm pretty convinced the Wildfire will suit me. However if you're coming from an iphone and looking for something similar, you might prefer the htc desire. From what I've read, the Wildfire is a cheaper and more basic version of the Desire, while the Desire competes more directly with the iphone.

I prefer the wildfire because it's cheaper and smaller than iphone/desire and bcasue i don't require as many features etc.

im getting mixed reviews with the HTC wildfire, is it actually any good? i am coming from an iphone 2g

The Wildfire is the new budget model from HTC, and coming from an iPhone will probably not seem all that great. I would suggest looking at the Desire if cost isn't an issue or the new Orange San Francisco (which is a rebadged, easily and cheaply unlockable ZTE Blade) if on a budget (£109 and around £2 for unlocking code).

The San Francisco is actually closer to the Desire than the Wildfire, specification wise.

I got the SF as a backup phone and the wife has the Wildfire.
IMO the Wildfire is the better phone both in looks and speed of operation despite the slower chip speed.
  • I actually picked up the wildfire on contract yesterday however have not had time to properly test it out (waiting on a protective case before I start using it!)

I have read up on the spec and it seems to be what I want for the price, obviously the desire is up there with the top but I didnt want to pay desire money.

Coming from a iphone i'm not sure what you'll think although I am not a iphone fan at all (having had 2 before and selling them within a week!). I hope I like the wildfire as I'm stuck with it!

I looked at the Orange SF however was put off by the poor camera MP with no flash.

I'd be interested to know what you think of it.

I'm still looking for a good deal on a PAYG or SIM free Wildfire, but think i'll probably go with this model.
  • I basically just use my phone for internet browsing, and checking the football scores. So aslong as the browser is decent then thats ok. I was going to get the desire hd however have just got the t mobile sim card thing and now contemplating whether i need to spend so much on a phone
Is it possible to watch tv on the wildfire like on the iphone?
  • Just another quick update from me, I'm about to start using the wildfire as my main phone now & had a better look at it last night, I'm very impressed, the interface seems easy enough to use and is quick enough and im very impressed by the applications that it has on/you can get for it. I had a look around the internet on it and the browser seems capable enough, especially love the facebook app!

It also has a maps app which will be useful for me as Im forever getting lost!

Oh, 5mp camera with flash too - all the smart phones these days seem to have 3mp with no flash!

Yes the screen quality isn't as good as some phones however this would only become a problem if you want to watch video's on your phone (not something I do!)

    Hope this helps somebody!
  • hi

good thread, i'm looking at one too after seeing a friends at the weekend. we went mountain biking and turned on the gps and it plotted the route, speed, elevation. also has cool apps and games like g maps (sav nav app), light/torch app and some cool games. makes calls too! i've also found it at £130 at argos on voda but you need to buy £10 vodafone credit. think i'm gonna go for that and get one of the codes off the net for £15 ish and then use asda mobile. its a Which best buy and 4p/8p calls. i'm with tesco at minute but at £4/MB for data, i think i'll give it a miss. you can download games and apps etc at the house with your wifi if your PAYG and saves high data tariffs if you don't have a bundle.

    happy hunting all.
