These boots were NOT made for walking!

Rant time, sorry folks.
Question: When are walking boots not suitable for walking?
You may ask the audience or phone a friend!
Answer: "When you are dog walking!"
To explain I took a pair of Peter Storm walking boots back to Milletts.
The leather had started to crack across the toes but more than that each boot had a small split between sole and upper. This was the second pair I had had- the first lost a D ring or hook and these were the replacement. When asked how I used them I replied "dog walking"....it seems that walking boots are not meant for that so they can't replace them and I don't have a receipt otherwise I would be contacting Trading Standards. (They are about 2 years old.)
If I like I can have 10% off the purchase of another pair of boots in the future!!! As if!
So the moral of the story is: if you buy walking boots from Milletts and you think they are substandard in some way and need to return them to the shop say that you have been up K2, Kilimanjaro, Ben Nevis, whatever but NEVER say you have been dog walking!!

Wonder if that's because they would be used less often if they were simply hiking boots? Dog walking suggests they are used much more frequently?
Still rdiculous though, especially since walking boots don't tend to be cheap.
Edit.: It's ridiculous the reason they gave, imo....not that they wouldn't exchange them.Herman - MP for all!

If I could exchange my boots every two years for a new pair without charge I would never need to spend any money on footwear ever again!:j0

Sorry to say 2 year old walking boots that I assume have been used daily for 2 years and have just started to crack across the toes. Sounds pretty good wear to me. As they are 2 years old the shop didn't have to offer you anything.Katiehound wrote: »

I wear walking boots for my dog walking and expect to replace them at about 18 months. Thats walking the dog 4 or 5 times a day they are leather boots that are well cared for but 18 months daily use and they are shot no matter the make.0 -
Well ,my boots were worn once a day for about half an hour for about 8 months of the year, I wouldn't have called that excessive! hey, they were walking boots. Generally my boots 'die' when the heels get worn down on the outer edges, but these weren't like that, in fact the heels and soles weren't that worn....Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

So your dog only walks half an hour a day 8 months of the year? I've never found heels and soles to go on walking boots it's normally other area's. Walking boots a lot of it depends on the price point you bought them at and if they were actually proper walking boots or fashion ones.Katiehound wrote: »Well ,my boots were worn once a day for about half an hour for about 8 months of the year, I wouldn't have called that excessive! hey, they were walking boots. If they were high priced ones and you really have only worn them for 32 hours over 2 years I would contact Peter Storm directly and complain.0 -
what does the dog do for the other 4 months of the year?0

Probably the same as my dogs - they get walked by an owner wearing trainers, flip flops or other less sturdy shoes. I only wear heavy duty boots when it is cold, wet, icy, snowy etc. the rest of the year other shoes suffice. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!1 -
Well I hate to point this out but unless you clean, dry and then polish your leather boots after every walk then the leather will ALWAYS split and crack, it is, after all, animal skin and if you don't moisturise it with polish or similar then it cracks. Simples. Two years before they start cracking is pretty damn good if you don't look after them. The size of a glory hole in an open pit should not be greater than the cross-section of the haul trucks that dump into it. Otherwise, you are bound to lose a truck, sooner or later. Source: Sergio Cha

Buy some Merrells like these:

Mine are nearly 8 years old, still as solid as they ever were and I've trekked them all over the globe and generally given them a massive thrashing. Still entirely in one piece, still wonderfully comfy. Awesome.0 -
walking boots need maintaining. did you do this?
i have a cheap pair of decathlon walking shoes for dog walking. i've had them 18 months and still look like new. they are synthetic, not leather.0
