Should I be weary..?

Hi, I have just sold a full set of golf clubs along with accesories, They went for £41.00.

On my listing it stated cash on collection as didn't have suitable packaging for the golf bag, clubs, shoes and brolley ect. Anyway someone msgs me with around 5 mins left before Auction ends, He asked if I post I msg'd him back after the auction ended as my little one had decided to wake.

He has paid via PayPal straight away...He said he can arrange to get the item...I am just a little worried though as he has Zero feedback and isn't new.

I am worried I am going to get the old did not recieve item after he picks up and obiously as its collection I wont have proof?

Am I right to be weary or should I give him the benefit of the doubt?

Sounds very dodgy to me, and as he'd be picking them up you would have no proof of delivery and be wide open for a claim I would have thought.

Sounds slighty dodgy, but then I'm totally paranoid. I'd refund the PayPal payment and ask for cash on collection, as otherwise he could claim he never received the item and without you having proof of postage he'd get refunded straight away.

Could you tell him that as he paid by paypal and not cash on collection as requested you will require a signature and proof of id on collection? If he is genuine and not trying it on, he shouldn't have a problem with this. If he doesn't want to do this, you can - as suggested above - refund paypal and he can pay cash.

PayPal wouldn't accept that as proof of delivery, and he'd probably know that, so would be happy to sign a piece of useless paper.

I'm just going to message him and see what he says, hopefully he will understand, I know I am being cynical but I cannot afford to lose £41.00 right now!

You did the right thing, it sounds a typical con - if there geunine they won't mind paying cash on delievery.

Don't forget that as a seller, we can't leave negative or neutral feedback, so people just won't leave any,

To avoid pp fees?

I usually just go with something along the lines of 'sorry i can't accept pp for a collection only item you must have missed this in the listing, hope you don't mind'

I just emailed saying Hi, Sorry to be a pain but could I refund you via paypal and you pay cash on collection as stated in the listing? Thanks

I thought it was a bit weird he had been a member for 5 yrs and no feedback and don't want to risk it!

You could try offering a small discount if he pays by cash.
Hopefully its just a case of a buyer who doesnt use ebay very often so doesnt really understand much about it.
I would be more worried if they had 0 feedback & only registered in the last week, but I still wouldn't accept paypal for a pick up item.
