I could take that as a sarcastic dig at me!!!

But for the benefit of doubt, I don't think you know that I am an alcoholic!!

I didn't know either, thanks for sharing that with everyone ;)

Shame the OP hasn't been back to let us know the outcome. Instead we have the pleasure of the andyandflo merry go round.

DWP call centre staff are often on short term contracts and have very little training other than how use the computer programme. It's not that they lie they just don't know themselves and try to bluff their way through. It's always best to do your own homework and look up the info on benefit checker or Directgov.com then call them telling them what you think your entitled to. This methord works for me when at work or helping friends/neighbours with benefit claims.

If they do not know the right answer to give, and they are making it up, they are indeed lying. They are telling you something they know is not the correct answer, or they are not sure is the correct answer, and presenting it, falsely as a fact. Therefore it is a lie, simples.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

But... you can claim JSA and as stated you can't claim income support unless you were already on it before failing. So how are they lying to you?
  • its been a ruff couple of days, things not getting any better.went to jobcentre, which was really hard, cant belive im a grown woman and to scared to go outside my own house.anyway total waste of time.they told me to go home and ring ESA and put a claim in,so i did they sent me a form to fill in and send off, also had to get a sicknote off my doctor to say im not fit for work.which i did. then rang for a crisis loan as its only me and my 16 year old son,we have no savings,i get child benefit and child tax as he has just started college and that is it. crises sorted me out with a giro for (dont laugh) £26 for the week.and told me that i could try for another loan next week but might not get it. moneys all gone now.dont know what else to do.or how much more i can take. we have knowone. any advice please.

    a) are you sure about that (having to be on IS before) as I was not on IS before in the past when I was put on reduced rate income support (although the rules may have changed since then)

    b) I had been on income support before (second time round) and they still told me the same information.
